1440p monitor?

XPGHawk

So I have done my fair amount of research on the topic and I have come to an in-pass with the my knowledge and what would be the best option. That saying I think I have narrowed it down to 4 different monitors although open to suggestions. (side-note: my location is Germany)

Where my difficulty is which is better, as for what I do, I browse the web, game a bit and also do 3d work.

MG279Q

PB278QR

  Why? Seems to be contradicting thoughts here.

There is no point in spending 600 euros on the Asus MG279Q because with that money you could just get 4k

The PB278QR is the one that is in the perfect price range and has everything someone would want such as Displayport IPS perfect size

EDIT

You can get a 4k monitor that's cheaper then all of the monitors above you mentioned:

The MG279Q is a good monitor although if you're not going to game a lot I'm not sure it'll be worth it. Depends on the prices of your other options. The U2713HM has basically been replaced by the U2715H, and the U2713H will only be useful if you need wide-gamut capability. If you do, then that's your only option out of the bunch, and if you don't, it's not a good idea to get a wide-gamut monitor in the first place.

Well in light of this, 4K that is, should I just get the pb287Q instead? Somewhat confused now? Only thing I have an issue is that gaming  :P  what is it like with a gtx 970.

Okay, heeding your advice and considering what "the amazing cookie.." said, what would your advice be? Which way would you go?

I would just get that 4K monitor. You don't have to play on 4k because when you go in game and go to options you can just set the resolution to 1440p 1080p 720p 3k 2k whatever you want just not 5k.You could get 30-40fps on medium-high settings with a single 970 depending on the game

That monitor is dem $600 in US.I can't afford it.Just yet that is

I disagree, with the PB287Q you're essentially trading higher resolution for the panel quality, the PB287Q uses a lower quality panel than any option we've mentioned so far. Spending on the MG279Q isn't pointless just because "you could get 4K instead", because the MG279Q is one of the highest-end 1440p monitors to date and you'd be going from that to a low-end 4K monitor. The only advantage the PB287Q has is the resolution, everything else os the same or worse. And if you're just going to run it at 1440p anyway as suggested, you might as well get the high-end 1440p monitor, it will look better at native resolution anyway compared to running at 1440p on a 4K monitor.

The U2715H is actually cheaper and better than the U2713HM so you cam probably replace that option with the 15H, but for the money the PB278QR is probably the better choice anyway. So it's between the PB278QR and the MG279Q, really just depends on whether 144Hz refresh rate is worth the cost difference to you or not. I don't think a cheap 4K monitor would be a better option at this time.

LOL no. the monitors are set at a native res. so 4K would be ............. but then when you change 4K to 1440P things would start to be a little bit blurry

You have a point although looking at the monitor (PB287Q) the first deal breaker was the TN panel, if I am going to upgrade, why go with such an old panel technology with newer ones at similar prices.

I completely agree with you after looking deeper into the 4K monitor, didn't know notice the fact it was a tn panel among other things that I find off putting. Although going through reviews they say the monitor is stunning, are reviewers just looking at the monitor and putting aside the fact that IPS would be better?

More on about the PB278QR and the MG279Q, is the only difference between the two the refresh rate?

It's a high-grade TN panel, so the colors aren't that bad (really quite good as far as TN panels go), but the viewing angles are still TN. Of course, everyone always thinks "well that's not a problem, I always look at my monitor straight on anyway", but it's not as simple as you might think; even when you look at your monitor from right in front of it, the edge of the monitor are actually being viewed a quite a steep angle, especially if your monitor is closer to your face, and especially especially if your monitor is large.

The MG279Q also supports FreeSync but I'm not sure how much you care about that or if you even have an AMD graphics cards.

Sorry been busy all day. Anyways, yea about the MG279Q, the freesync option is of interest to me because one I don't have an AMD card and how it works. So before ending this, what would you buy with your money and if your budget was ±500€?

EDIT:

Just found out about another monitor....the Asus MX27AQ <link> Sorry for being such a nub, monitor shopping is a serious F*%king pain with such minuscule details that could effect whether the monitor is a God send or hell

And just so I know where are both on the same page; it's down to the MG279Q, PB278QR and now the MX27AQ.
