1440p 144hz rated monitor capped at 120hz?

Hi guys, I purchased an Acer XG270HU in hopes of running my games at 1440p 144hz, however I can only go up to 120hz in my graphics settings. If I lower the resolution to 1080p, then I am able to go to 144hz. My setup is as following : Asus GTX770 2GB, 4790k, 8GB RAM

 

I am using the Displayport cable provided in the box the monitor came with. I have tried using HDMI and the DVI cable but both are limited to 60, so it's even worse. Anyone have any ideas on what's wrong?

Im guessing you need to plug 2 cables from it to your pc or its freesync related, read the manual.
