My question is 4590 vs 4690k. Worth the extra? Why not go with the 4460?

The cpu doesn't work in the motherboard without a bios update. What's with the aftermarket cooler if you're not oc'ing?

Why such a large psu..?

Something like this would be better: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/pjhtyc

This is the best build so far.

GPU benchmarks: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/compare.php?cmp[]=2954&cmp[]=2719&cmp[]=325

CPU benchmarks: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare.php?cmp[]=2230&cmp[]=2284&cmp[]=2234

Edit: I would change the motherboard to support SLI to make uses of the 750w PSU.

So let's say he takes your advice and buys an i5 4590 + a H81 motherboard.  He gets the parts, installs them all and pushes the power button.  All he gets is a black screen.  All the parts work, but still... it won't post.  Do you know why?

The i5 4590 is a Haswell Refresh CPU, and the H81 motherboard was designed to support Haswell CPUs.  It might very well not even recognize that their is even a CPU in the socket.  It has happened to many before, so don't say it won't happen.
