School, workstation, games. Ws60 or gs70 ?

givingtnt

So iv come across the msi ws60 laptop with a 3k screen

And im wondering. Would it be better to pick this woth its quadro mobile gpu instead of my current choice of the gs70.

The ws has a ips 3k display, and is a bit thicker, w/ better cooling.

Im doing some adobe illustrator, photoshop and later dome video editing and 3d modeling for a game / school. And perhaps play some games.

Wich should i take ?

Thanks !

I'd doubt the modelling you are doing requires the quadro although they are definitely nice to have none the less. Nvidia NView is pretty cool too.

3k Panel vs what resolution, cause I can't image its that low being a gs70 and all.

1080p tn.   but will the quadro be able to compete with the 970m ? (ot at least the 960m) in gaming ?

also. yeahé 3d modeling will be a farey big thing in my next few years. but mostly on a desktop.

For modelling, it depends on the program. I can handle 3M polys in ZBrush pretty easily with my current rig, but Maya is not gonna happen at that poly count.

I'm just going to use the universities computers for modeling (A few are running K5200s) when I need to use Maya. I think the 960m will be faster, not sure what architecture that quadro is. It's the k2100M?

yeah I think it is. the gs70 has a 970m too. can the quadro handle games well ? or its going to be pretty much dead for that ?

also. im not talking about the 3k panel. im talking about gaming at 1080p on the 3k panel.

That's not going to look very good, I'll be honest with you.

Neither, considering what you want to do. What's your budget? If it's pretty healthy you can get a P750ZM or P770ZM... even with a quadro GPU (from the right vendor) if you so desire. You won't get a 3K screen so easily though. But when you want to stress the components (namely the CPU) you'll get the full worth of your hardware with those models.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

I have 2100$ cad. nothing more.

I want a slim notebook I can carry around, wich is why I first picked the gs70. I don'T mind the cooling really, I can (an alredy am) making a custom cooling pad.

You can consider the Clevo P650SE, if you want slim. The 650 is the slimmest you can get from Clevo, which still houses a 970M and an efficient cooling system.

The cooling was not the main reason I was suggesting the other notebook. It's the ability for its CPU to do its job without throttling or running out of power. Though the GS70 will never be able to cool its CPU well enough for stuff like 3D modelling.

If you want a notebook that has its power under control (and also cooling) then you're gonna have to avoid the thin ones, I'm afraid.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

yeah. but tbh I don'T really mind the cooling. it should be fine.

If you say so... just don't expect your cooling pad to do very much.
