GSKILL and Kingston memory

My friend has the following system:

fof0nc.jpg

16GB installed ram but only 11.9 usable.

4x4 kits are:

4x2 GSKILL RipjawsX 1600MHz CL9

4x2 Kingston HyperX Savage Red 1600MHz CL9

Does he have to update the bios or what does he have to do in order to make the 16GB available in Windows?

Thanks in advance.

Correct me if I'm wrong but shouldn't you always buy exactly same ram? so in this case either exactly that same kingston or gskill?

so 4 x kingston or gskill not half and half?

No, you can use any brand as long as they have same speeds and CAS speeds.

OS takes up ~2GB, depending on how Win 8.1 displays usage at the system menu it's possible that those results are normal.

Try looking in resource monitor instead of sys info.

Ah well I wouldn't take any chances I'd go with 4 sticks all same brand etc. Also my windows shows exactly the amount I've installed.

Look around in the bios for system reserved memory, check the igpu.
