So, I was just browsing through the news this morning, trying to wake up, when I caught this little gem of a story.

Fitting that his online handle was "obnoxious"

 

 

A 17-year-old hacker from British Columbia, Canada, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to 23 charges of extortion, public mischief, false police reports, and criminal harassment.

 

The British Columbia resident describes himself as being a member of the hacking group Lizard Squad, and admitted to a number of swatting incidents that targeted victims in Tucson, Arizona and Florida, among other US cities.

 

Apparently, he repeatedly targeted one girl so many times that she ended up dropping out of school.

 

 

 

 

 

His attacks would often start with posting personal details like financial records and contact info on the internet, then escalate to “swatting,” or calling the victim’s local law enforcement and telling them his target’s home was the site of a hostage situation, or that he had killed everyone inside. In one of the worst instances, he targeted a young woman at the University of Arizona who eventually had to drop out of school after multiple swattings on her and her parents.

 

 

 

I find myself wondering if he could actually be a member of Lizard Squad. His behavior seems juvenile enough that he would fit in just fine with them.

Apparently, a majority of his victims were women, which I think says just about everything that needs to be said.

Does he realize how serious calling the police and faking a hostage situation is? Or lying about a murder? Like...that's no joke. He's in some serious trouble.

To be honest, it's hard to tell. He's intelligent enough to be able to do all of this, but then moronic enough to brag about it on twitter, and in a live stream on Twitch.

 

Sounds like he might just be wanting to meet this guy. And hopefully he does.

Not sure. But it wouldn't be surprising. I can imagine every single last one of them getting arrested, then someone else going out there and saying "we still haven't been caught". People like that are just.....ugh.

Oh yeah read about this. I'm glad they caught him. An I hope they catch everyone else who does it. They don't realize how dangerous swatting is.

17 year old though, that's actually really young to have so many crimes on your name already. Faking a hostage situation isn't anything to joke about.

I remember when they were doing that debate with review tech usa, on of the members kept mentioning that a guy from canada is untouchable and he's pretty much the guy who orchestrates all of the attack then. If this is really him this will send a strong message to the others. But I really doubt it, we'll just have to see if their attacks are on the same level to whether it's had an effect or not.

To qualify for a Darwin Award, your action needs to prevent you from passing on your genetic information by breeding. So it'd have to either sterilize him, or kill him.

 

Still, I do understand the sentiment lol.

Sadly, I think he will end up getting a slap on the wrist in most peoples eyes as he is under aged. Punishments most likely consist of getting his computer and internet access revoked for a very, very long time as well as being added to some sort of watch list and check in system.
