Hey everyone! The challenge this week is to make the most powerful small-form-factor PC that you can for $1,250. As always, the rules and guidelines can be found here.

SFF means that you must have a Mini-ITX motherboard and chassis. Note that this "power" is not for a specific purpose, such as gaming, so make sure your components are balanced. Overclocking will definitely give you better performance, so keep that in mind.

This contest will run from Friday July 19th to Tuesday the 23rd, with Wednesday and Thursday (the 24th and 25th) reserved for voting.

GLHF and BUILD, BUILD, BUILD!

UPDATE: Voting is now live, so no further entries will be added to the poll. If you didn't submit a part list, please vote for your favorite. A winner will be announced on August 2nd since nobody has voted by the original deadline, Friday, July 26th.

UPDATE: Congratulations to the winner, WoodenMarker! As of Friday, August 2nd, his part list had the most votes. The next contest can be found here.

why ivy bridge? well, we could overclock higher and get a better performance. it's really a silicon lottery. now i didn't choose z87 because:

- we won't be putting too much drives. it's a mini itx build

- we won't need the better iGPU

- yes, yes, powersaving and all that jazz but i think the difference is minimal imo. and it is a desktop. its not like you conserve battery.

why razer keyboard? come on. it isn't bad to make your build look good.

You can't go over budget at all. If we let people go $5 over budget, then the budget it really just $5 higher than it was originally. The Markup, however, is only a snapshot of your part list price at that time. If you wait, something might go on sale before Tuesday. Your submission just has to be under budget, but the price could skyrocket after you submit it.

The run down:

Processor - a great general purpose processor, good for gaming, will work well for photo and video editing. Went with Haswell because they perform generally perform better.

Cooler - the 'standard' cooler for computer builds, performs great especially when on a budget.

SSD - Samsung 840 should be more than enough, no need for a Pro series

HDD - standard 1TB drive, performs decently well and has a good price

RAM - 8GB, nothing special

Graphics card - 7770, one of the best budget cards, works great. Can play BF3 on high at 45 ish FPS (I own this card)

Case - my favorite (and most peoples) mini-itx case

PSU - XFX ProSeries (rebranded SeaSonic X - Series) 80 Plus Gold, fully modular, great PSU, and will be perfect to be used in any future upgrade/builds (you won't need to replace it!)

If you guys have any questions or comments, don't be afraid to ask/state them.

EDIT: Just thought I'd add, I did this build a few different times, with 7870s, 760s etc, but I found that I had to cheap out and sacrifice quality on some parts (I'm looking at you Corsair CX PSUs), which I don't like to do. This build isn't gaming oriented, so it doesn't need a 780, and I wanted to make it "future proof", so that you won't need to re-purchase parts if you want to upgrade.

GPU: Coolest 760 around (It had the lowest temps in linus' benchmarks)

Case: Look its not a prodigy

Monitor: Great value!

Keyboard: You don't always need mechanical to get good performance.

The CPU performs like an i7 at the cost of an i5. Haswell doesn't usually overclock that well since it runs hot, and the Xeon can't OC at all, but the 212 Evo keeps it cool and can run silently. The motherboard has built in WiFi and is from a reputable manufacturer. for storage, there is a big 1TB drive with a 64GB SSD cache. Since this is an all-around performance build, the caching will help boot/load times, no matter what the application. The 7950 is a great card and can accelerate certain programs with OpenCL (such as the Adobe Suite). The case is very nice looking, and smaller than both the Bitfenix Prodigy and the CM Elite 120 Advanced. The PSU is from a good manufacturer and has a little bit of headroom as far as voltage goes. The monitor is an IPS screen with a 5ms response time, so it will look great and won't ghost in games. The keyboard has Cherry MX Browns and good build quality.

Update: I added a Xeon CPU instead of the 4670k.

CPU : Best run for your money if you're not going to overclock. This thing crushes every i5.
CPU Cooler : Well we all know how efficient and cheap the Hyper 212 is.
Motherboard : That's the one component I refuse to be cheap on. This is the best Z77 mini-ITX motherboard. Period.
RAM : Cheap and fast. Plus it's got a nice 10 years warranty just in case.
Storage : A good mix of HDD and SSD for speed ans space.
Video Card : The 7870XT is pretty much a 7950LE. Overclock it and you get the power of a 7950 for a way cheaper price. Plus AMD is much better for compute than Nvidia. Moar poweeeeer !
Case + PSU : Silverstone makes the best mini-ITX cases. They're functionnal and cooling is above average.
Monitor : I wanted to grab an iIyama but they're not on PCPartPicker. So that'll do the job.

EDIT : Changed PSU and case for graphics card compatibility. Plus this little cubitek is such a nice case.

You can add a custom part, just make sure to include the link and price. My E3-1230 V3, for example, is not on PCPartPicker.

Also, I'm sorry to tell you that your GPU can't actually fit in that case. Silverstone's website says here: http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=276&area=en that the case can fit GPUs up to 10" in length. That graphics card is 10.5" long.

Ah damn ! Thanks for poiting it up, it's fixed ;)

I think you forgot to specify that you need to include a monitor, mouse/keyboard and speakers (since some people that those out).

Thank you, I notified the people who left out parts. That specification is in the main "hub" thread, but maybe I should put the rules directly in the OP for each thread...

Please add speakers or headphones

If you look at the monitor it has built in speakers and comes with Sennheiser headphones as a special offer.

Oh, sorry about that. That would be something good to put in the description/defense of your build, as most people wouldn't think to look at each part.

EDIT: I see you already did :)

Let's get some votes here! (I'm going to abstain from voting, as it doesn't make sense to vote for myself because of my bias)

Nobody has voted, so I'm going to postpone the deadline one week. This contest will close on August 2nd. If nobody votes by then I will withdraw my entry so that I can be the deciding vote.
