What does "msaa" do?

I call msaa "fake resolution" (like Linus says). So for example, you look at grass on a 1080p screen. Since the monitor has pixels, it can't make the grass "curvy". You get jagged lines. What msaa does is it smoothens out the jagged lines. It will decrease FPS.SXysed9.jpg

So the higher the msaa the less jagged lines?

What does "msaa" do?

It smooths out the edges of textures by rendering them at a higher resolution and then down scales it back to your resolution.

yup, but it is demanding on your hardware. If you had an Nvidia card, they have a technology called FXAA. It's just a less demanding version of msaa. x2 FXAA is equal to x4 MSAA. You can probably get away with x2 msaa.

TXAA.* FXAA is available for both NVIDIA and AMD.

Edit: I actually think you might be referring to MFAA, now that I think about your comparison to 4x MSAA.

That's a seriously bad idea for GTA V. Even with nothing else in the background you are pushing it with only 8GB of RAM.

I would say some settings on low and some on high to get a stable 60 FPS with no drops at all, with x2 msaa because the game looks like shit without msaa!

GTA V runs perfectly fine on my system, and I am only running an AMD FX4300 with 8GB of ram. I can run the game with high settings at 1080p, and only occasionally have a drop to 45FPS on the very lowest end.

My boyfriend is also running GTA V on an old Phenom 9850 2.5 GHZ cpu 4GB of ddr2, and a single GT630, and he is able to run it at 30fps solid. Though for his system, all the graphical stuff is on the lowest settings.

That's odd considering GTA V alone uses far above 4GB RAM alone on my system.
