3x120 vs 2x140

Lays

I'm thinking about replacing my 3 intake fans with either 3x120 Cougar fans, or 2x140 Cougar fans, looking at benchmarks and other things they actually perform very well.

My issue is though, will 2 140's move more air into the case, or 3 120's?

I'm thinking the 3 120's will move more but be louder?

(Other reason for these fans is they're orange and will match my new X99 Gigabyte SOC Champion board)

Fans I'm talking about:

this you could have them at a lower rpm to counteract that while looking better

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

3 120, i have there hyper bearing 120mm and they are damn good for the price, don't make much noise below 1200 rpm, less noise than the cm 212 fan by far and less than the 140mm and 200mm phanteks fans. the 140mm cougars are silent at 1200 rpm their max. they move less air than the phanteks 140mm but, make so much less noise i can run them higher and move more air for less noise. i would imagine the 120mm cougars are just as good as their bigger brother. the orange isn't as bright as it looks online and can have a rough cut look to them.

They should move similar amounts of air but the 140mm's are usually quieter.

I replaced the 2 140mm fans in my Air 540 with 3 120mm fans. It was really more for aesthetics, but the flow seems more even.  IMO 3 fand would be better if you have multiple gpus because of the position of the fans.

since they flow pretty much the same amount (70cfm ea) the 3x will give you

more airflow. seeing that the 120s are slightly quieter at 1500rpm (by their

specs) kinda writes itself.

only beef i have with the cougars are the bearings. first 100 (or so) hours they

tend to get dodgy in maintaining a constant speed or PWM surge.
