Logitech G710+ vs. Ducky Shine 4.

davidarad02

yes I know there's a huge price difference in the US, but I live in Israel, so prices between these two keyboards are much closer.

I'm looking for a Cherry MX brown keyboard, and these two are priced competitively. and have some nice features, but I can't decide which one is better, because I have a red and black theme with my rig, so the LED's on the Ducky will give it a bonus, as well as the amount of lighting features and the shortcut buttons that the Ducky has, but compared to the Logitech, which has a wrist rest, macro keys and dedicated media keys, but clashes with my color scheme.

Which one do you think is better?

please don't recommend any other keyboards, because there is not a lot of options here in the little state of Israel.

Just so you know, I want Brown switches because I want the tactile response, and while I like the idea of the clickyness of the blue's, I game at an environment where people are always around me, even at night, so I don't want to disturb them with the clicks.

also, please reply to my post, because that's the only I'll see your comment.

If I'm being brutally honest, I don't use any of the LED settings on my shine 4. Just stick it to blue and leave it. Just find it distracting when something is flashing out of my peripheral vision which is the case when you're using a keyboard. Got to say the build quality of the shine 4 is top notch. I just went with the shine 4 because I was after a brown keyboard and I knew that it should be solid like 5 years down the line, the last keyboard I had was a logitech keyboard and that failed on me in two years so take that as you will.  I wasn't really bothered by the lack of media controls because I just use those with my mouse. Either one is a solid choice. But I would lean towards the shine 4 if the media controls and the macros aren't a huge deal to you.

If your really worried about noise then the g710 would be your only choice as it comes with o-rings that dampen extra sound. Its still going to be louder then a membrane keyboard either way.. If you want flashy lights and nice feeling keycaps ducky all the way. I personally have a g710+ as I like o-rings. I wish logitech would ditch their macros keys .. I rarely ever use them. And it just adds length to the keyboard.

I don't have the Shine 4, but I do have the G710+. I like it, but it isn't amazing or anything. Wrist rest is, for me, a perfect size, and the feel of MX Browns (plus the o-rings it comes with) result in a pleasant typing, and gaming experience. The white LED leaves a lot to be desired as far as backlighting goes, but at least it doesn't clash with the rest of my setup, and is plenty bright. The dedicated media keys, I find, have relatively no use. They don't really work in anything I've tried them in. Unless my media program is front-and-center, they don't work. (Next track, previous track, pause, etc.) So I've just got my media keys bound to Profile 1's G1-4. The volume wheel does have weight to it though, and it works flawlessly.

If I want, I can add o-rings to the keyboard. its not expensive at all, and if I feel its needed, I'll get some.

I didn't mean to make it a main selling point, as I know you can order them for any keyboard for dirt cheap. Just a nice little touch.

If you want to spend $20 on o-rings sure. If the o rings, media and macro keys arent a selling point to you then jsut get the ducky. Its a great keyboard. You cant really go wrong with either.

If you feel like getting a set of custom keycaps in the future, the Shine 4 has a standard bottom row compared to the G710+. If you aren't going to get custom keycaps for your Shine 4 in the future, then the G710+ would still be a good board, especially with the included o-rings for silencing the bottoming out of the keyswitch. I would just go with which one is cheaper but I personally would recommend the Shine 4 just because it doesn't have software and looks much more professional (even with the new "horse hoof" design on the bottom) imo.

I personally own both boards my ducky has reds and once I started using my ducky I havent touched my g710+. I also bought a wrist rest to go with my ducky so as someone with both I would say go for the ducky it looks better imo and also does have media keys you just have to use the function key to use them. But the g710+ is not a bad keyboard by any means so if you like how it looks and if you have a need for those keys on the left then go for it.
