Be Quiet! Silent Base 800 , In LTT Colours :D

Hey Everyone :D

So after a couple of years struggling with the terrible cable management in the Zalman Z11 i decided to get a new case , saw Linus's Quiet PC build and i loved the look of the Silent Base 800

Unfortunately Linus didn't do a review of the silent base 800 , so i had to look at other channels like Tek Syndicate and Hardware Canucks , after a few days of pondering details about the silent base 800

i decided to order one , this is my review of the Silent Base 800 , one thing to note tho , im my excitement i forgot to take in-progress shots of the build and case , so all i will have here is a few pics of my finished build

Aesthetics

I personally love the look of the Silent Base 800 , its a physically big case with subtle but notice able Orange/Silver/Black accents , depending on which one you buy of course .

The Case is also color coded on the inside too , i have the orange variant of the case so i have orange cable management grommets and orange drive mounts

if you buy the silver variant then you will get grey grommets and drive mounts , and if you buy the black variant you will get black grommets and drive mounts

Note that there is no window on this case as of standard but Be Quiet have just announced at Cebit that a window version is coming and you will be able to buy the window separately

from the Be Quiet Store , both side panels and the front draw bridge door have sound dampening foam covering the whole side panle and front door

One thing to note on the Silver variant , it actually has more color than the other two variants , the silver version has silver case stands where as the black and orange variants have black

case stands ( which you dont have to use if you dont want to )

The Front of the case has a Door which covers up four 5.25 inch driver bays , and a draw bridge type door that covers up the two 140mm pure wings 2 fans that are filtered by a removable mesh fan filter

that looks a bit tricky to remove but is easier than it looks , also the front of the case is a brushed plastic design , there is also a 120mm pure wings fan in the back of the case , and a long fan filter at the back of the case for the power supply and bottom 120/140mm fan

The Only thing i have found to be careful of is scratches and finger prints , while building the case i accumulated alot of scratches on the bottom of the case and alot of finger prints on the side panel , i cant say about dust yet as i have only had the PC running a few days

Design/Looks out of 10 - 8/10 , gets scratched easily and no window (yet)

The Building Experiance

As i mentioned before i bought this case primarily for cable management , but i also wanted something that would last me alot of upgrade cycles and would cool my hardware enough

To put it simply , this case is a dream to build in , it has plenty of room for as much hardware you could need , aswell as watercooling potential ( i would love to see a WC build in this case )

there is almost an inch behind the mobo tray for cable management which is more than enough , you can mount up to 7 HDD's and 4 SSD's , as well as the before mentioned four 5.25 drives or fan controllers and such , as i mentioned before the case comes with 2x 140mm Pure wings 2 fans and a 120mm pure wings 2 fan , if you were to buy them separately they would cost you £27 ( Amazon UK ) and those where the cheapest variants on amazon , for reference the case was only £85 , you can also add a 120mm fan on each side panel , yes thats right you can put a slim 120mm fan on the back of your case to help cool your mobo

Anyway , the case was really really easy to build in , it is really big and spacious and has more than enough room for all of my hardware ( Specs in sig ) and its big enough to accommodate all of my hard ware and my big hands to put everything in , i have built a few PC's for my friends , using cases like R4/5's and some corsair cases , i can easily say the Silent base 800 has been the easiest to build in

I again only had 1 issue with the silent base 800 while striping it down for building , the bottom playstic cover that hold the case stand/feet and fan filter for the bottom fan and PSU fan was screwed in AND had a sliding lock mechanism , which just seems a bit odd to me , the screws are also a bit of a pain in the bum to get at , they are in each corner of the case and you need a really thin small Phillips screw driver to get them out

Marks out of ten for ease of building - 9/10 , those screws annoyed me lol

Quiet-ness and Temps

Lets start with the obvious , This case is made by Be Quiet! , so you can bet your ass its gonna be quiet , and so it is , the only thing i can hear in my case is the horrendous coil whine on my CX750M PSU which is in no way the cases fault

now temps is where things change , My old case was a Zalman Z11 , with the case amount of fans in the same place , except the z11 only had one intake on the front

i switches over to the Silent Base 800 , and my GPU and CPU temps went up 5c , at idle and load , but i believe this is because all the fans in my new case spin slower , all of my temps are still within he max temp range , my Windforce 970 hits 71c with a 1479mhz OC and my FX-8350 hits about 50c @stock , its still enough for my PC to stay cool enough for my needs

i just found it weird that this case make my PC hotter , but i think that is just me

Marks out of ten for silence and temps - 9/10 , very quiet and good enough temps

Conclusion

The Important thing to remember is that this is a Sub £100 case , and for the price it is amazing , it looks awesome , has alot of upgradability and fn options aswell as nearly £30's worth of fans included so really the case was only about £55's lol , if you are in the market for a physically big ,very well built , rather heavy ( a good thing imo ) case then i will always recommend the Be Quiet! Silent Base 800

I enjoyed every second of re-building my PC into this case , and this case also made it as easy as can be , i had no problems installing any hardware , even my Noctua NH D-14 fits with loads of room to spare

i will definitely recommend this case to everyone i can , just on the off chance that i get to build in it again lol

Here is a couple of pics of my Finished PC , thanks for reading , if you have any questions please ask :D

Looks great, Adam!

I love that case, and I'm excited to see how it looks with the windowed side panel.

I love the silent base too :), it manages to be a perfect mix of in your face and minimalist at the same time.

My ears are sensitive as fuck. I actually got this just to replace my EVGA unit since it had a constant air woosh, even though it really wasn't that loud.

all of the standoffs are punched into the motherboard tray , the 2 you get with it are for larger boards if you need
