AMD FX8320 - Is it good for game streaming?

So I'm on a budget, and I'm considering buying the AMD CPU for my gaming needs - but this processor doesn't support hyperthreading, but it has eight cores, so I'm still considering it. Would it be good for multitasking like what I'll be doing? Gaming, streaming, listening to music perhaps, skyping, etc? I know I'll probably need to get some liquid cooling to manage the heat output, but would this be a good option for what I'm looking to do?

I'm looking to spend most of my money on a graphics card, but for the multitasking I figured it would be better to find a CPU that is good for that and find a good graphics card later. Thanks in advance for any all advice!

Also, I've heard liquid cooling is best for this processor - is that true, and if so, should I get a motherboard with protective coating just in case the liquid cooling fails or breaks? I know that would be a little more expensive but I don't want all the hard work to go to waste!

Sorry about all the questions, I'm sort of a noob at building my own computer, it's my first one - but I am trying to do lots of research so I won't end up with a bottleneck or fry my components with a faulty PSU or something.

the price for FX8320 + Good Liquid Cooling will cost you more if not the same with an intel i5.

Suggestion = get an i5

having a 8350 i would say get the i5 as you'll be mostly gaming. I haven't seen any noticeable drops in frame rates from using this CPU. I does really shine when doing tasks like rendering.

Most of the computers in college have i5's and i will say now 8350 just wipes the floor with it in this task.

If you're running a game that uses 4 cores and then your stream will benefit from the spear 4 cores of the 8320 when you start streaming.

Or you can just use the iGPU and get fantastic results. For this guy's needs, no reason to buy an ancient FX processor.

that would work if fx had 8 cores. since it shares resources it doesn't work nearly as well.

also you can use iGPU to render and stream with OBS with amazing performance.

because of the way the cores are moduled with cache, it ends up just performing like a quad core.

I've had baaaaad experiences with integrated graphics. I'm building a computer, I want dedicated graphics and multitasking capabilities. I just want to know if this processor is a good choice for that, and if not, could you guys suggest a specific model of i5, because there are like two dozen different ones? They all look the same to me. xD

i5 4460 would probably be your best bet since you're on a budget. It and a solid h81 board would cost you the same as an 8320 and the high power phase mobo/aftermarket cooling you'll need to run it (or even consider overclocking which is required to even try to equal the performance of an i5). More cores doesn't mean better performance, not always. And especially not in the case of FX CPUs.

If you're able to squeeze a Xeon into the budget you would see a great benefit in rendering performance, but it's costly and you can certainly do very well with an i5.

Unnamed System: i5 4690K (4.2GHz) - MSI Z97I-AC - 8GB G.Skill DDR3 2400MHz - EVGA GTX 950 SSC - Raidmax Thunder V2 535W - Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ITX

the FX8320 will work just fine, but an i5 might be a better option. I do game streams at 1080p and 60fps on my FX-6300 and it streams just fine.

Actually, what graphics card are you planning on getting? If you aren't getting a really good one you might want to go with the FX-8320 and get a better GPU.

You don't need liquid cooling or overclocking either. Just get a decent air cooler, don't do things you don't have to.

Get a good graphics card to begin with. Trust me on this one. It will be a lot more important for game streaming because, if your graphics card is not good enough you wont be able to stream the games at high quality anyways due to the game not running well at that quality.

I was considering a Nvidia GTX 780, because I wanted most of my budget to be on a good graphics card.

If you guys wanted to future proof your computer, what components would you guys get? I want this computer to last a long time, so maybe investing in an 17-4790k would be better. Or get an i5 now and upgrade later.

we are at a point where games don't really push CPU's that much, A good GPU is a much better investment.

Games do push the CPU plenty hard. GTAV is a perfect example of a modern game that demands strong CPU performance.

A better GPU is a better investment, but only if you pair it with a CPU capable of letting you utilize the GPU to its full potential. The FX processors quickly become a bottleneck past the R9280/GTX770 level.

yeah i got this CPU for rendering/photo editing/ virtual machines and software development. i only game lightly and not very often and nothing that really pushes my hardware.
