Callibrate monitor?

I just bought a new monitor. Do I need to calibrate it for optimal image quality? How do I do this?

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Most times you need to do this. I did not try this yet, but Windows 7 & 8(.1) has a tool called dccw to calibrate your monitor (just type on windows 8 start screen "dccw" and run this program as an admin)

If you want to do it properly get a hardware calibrator. The Spyder4 Pro is a good option.

Unless you professionally edit photos/video or you're a designer, I don't think you need to do that.

On that note, the monitor is TN. Is it really that bad compared to IPS?

Of course, IPS does have better colours, but if you're mostly gaming, you really won't notice. Look at it this way: TN gives you better response times!
