Graphics card choice for 1440p

Im planning to buy a 1440p monitor and i dont know if i should go 970 sli or single 980ti/r9 390x (when they are released).

 

Strong points of 980ti:

Better performance for games which doesnt support sli

6GB vram

High quality components = slightly high oc

Better future compatibility.

 

Strong points of 970 sli.

Better performance in sli supported games.

More performance per doller.

Sli looks sick.

I would go with CF R9 290x 8gb

Going by past experiences nvidia ti cards are comparable to titans in gaming so it will probably perform about as well as 970 sli without being sli, might not though.

I would go for 980 or 980 ti personally. A single card solution will always be more reliable than an SLI/crossfire setup.

 

Not all games scale correctly or even support 2 cards out of the box.

crossfire 290 would be the best setup and the cheapest for max settings at 1440p

r9 290 cf is tempting with that price...but i really like the features that nvidia offers and i <3 shadowplay.

1 single 980ti seems the most safe way to go. Performance, quiet, cool and upgradeability.
