Experiences from your first PC build

c_marriott

What are everyone's personal experiences from when they built their first ever PC?
For most it'll be a long time ago but mine was only a year or two ago.

Did anyone make any silly little mistakes like trying to plug things into the wrong inputs or near drop parts?

Maybe something funny occurred during the build?

Personally, my first build was pretty straight forward, other than the graphic's card arriving just as I was about to finish putting everything else in, arrived just in the nick of time.

So, what about you?

well those front IO cables are still crappy to plug in ^^

I kinda rushed so I plugged one cable in loose, but its very easy now. Still scared everytime I input a CPU ^^

wiring is hard, and theres always too few sata connectors on the PSU.

also, be quiet dark rock advanced C1 is an amazing cooler, that slices open your hands while struggling to deal wht the horrible install mechanism...

the front panel connectors are annoying.

ram needs to be removed and placed back in several times

Only thing is that I plugged in the front IO wrong so it didn't light up on my S340.

And I think I did something with my Kraken pump because I plugged it into random sockets and have no control.

RAM is also weird to put in, when the connector made a few crackle noises I pissed myself.

I've only ever done one CPU (mine) and I'm going to be building another PC soon for a friend and I'm terrified of accidentally bending the pins on the CPU

actually you must be pretty stupid to really bend those pins, just look at the triangle, illuminati confirmed.

That 24 pin connector is a pain in the neither region to plug.

The MOBO can take a lot of force actually.

The 8 pin EPS connector is necessary for the system to power on.

I don't do signatures.

I know but there's still that constant paranoia of accidentally doing it wrong

My 24 pin wasn't too bad

The only issue I had was with the 4 pin power on the mobo for the CPU, this was during my switch to a new case, I installed everything and was sorting out the cables but there is next to no room around the input for the 4-pin so I had to use a pencil or something to push in the connector as my hand was too big to fit

The SLi connector has enough space to stuff bare fan cable into.

When it isn't being used of course.

Was 4 when I built my first PC and  tried to boot up the PC without a CPU fan when my father went to drink some water.

How long was it before it turned off/you turned it off?

8 AMD cores are weaker than i7 cores. I bought the AMD FX 8150 thinking it was the fastest and most powerful processor on the market only to be left disappointed.

my first experience was cleaning out and putting back together a old pc(all but termal paste replacement) went pretty well, without too much fear.

Altough hopefully im gonna make a new build within a month and somehow i have the constant fear of parts being DOA and panicking because of it.

May the light have your back and your ISO low.

USB 3.0 right-angle motherboard connectors need to be made a standard.

Cable management is a bitch, but it's easier with flat cables.

SATA cables = shit cable management

Shipping on the stuff was a nightmere for me. None of my stuff showed up at the same time, and I just had a bunch of unopened boxes that I desperately wanted to put together but couldn't because not all of it was there. It took about a month for all of my stuff to arrive, and was built as soon as I could get it done. Other than that, my build went REALLY smoothly considering I had been watching and re-watching Linus' and others video guides on building a PC just to make sure I was doing it right. In the end it was no sweat really.

When the plastic thing on the CPU cover thing popped off I thought I broke something and was worried for a while.

DEATH TO FRONT PANEL CONNECTORS! *raises pitchfork*

they were the name of my pain on my first build :'), Plus i was awful with cable management as well.

infact i believe i have a picture to show you how bad it was.
