i5 4690k vs fx-8320 vs fx-8320E

I am looking into upgrading my CPU from Phenom II X4 965 BE so I am wondering which CPU should I chose. I mostly use my computer for programing and playing games. I am choosing between this tree CPU's. I currently have H80 CPU cooler so cooling and overclocking AMD processors will be possible however because I lost some of the mounting hardware I think it will be hard to do anything with the i5. And there is the price the 8320 + ASUS M5A99X R2 EVO cost around 290€ (8320E is around 25€ cheaper) and the i5 + ASUS z97-A cost 420€.

the i5 will be better for gaming, the question is if you want to fork over the extra cash for that.

You can't compare a 120€ amd vs a 220€ i5 ... that's not how it works

Go with the i5. Intel has way more performance compared to AMD. Imagine AMD as a bike that can go eight cycles per second with eight pedals. Now Intel is a bike with two pedals and can go eight cycles per second.  You can purchase some replacement mounting hardware....  Don't go with AMD this day and age, they are just crummy when it comes with CPU's. GPU's are another thing.

If the price is not too much of an issue, do yourself a favor and get the i5. mounting hardware should be easy to come by if you send corsair a ticket asking for mounting hardware.

What are you talking about ? Even with the AMD 9590 the I5 will properly beat it, in gaming.

I don't want to limite my options for the future so I rather pay a little extra for the 4690k

there is no limiting options. if you want price/performance locked i5 makes the most sense for gaming.

If you're able to afford it, the i5. It'll beat the FX-8320 in nearly everything (both single threaded and multi threaded applications).

Previously Trogdor8freebird

5800x | Asus x570 Pro Wifi (barely enough for 64GB apparently given it's 2133 and still crashes sometimes) | 64GB DDR4 | 3070 Ti 8GB | Love that whole weeb shit

I cannot recommend the 8320 even at its price point right now.  Possibly when games take advantage of more cores (rise of dx12 etc etc) would it be more viable as a budget gaming CPU but save a few more paychecks and go for the i5. I love my 8320 and it was a great buy 2 years ago but not so much anymore.

Even the athlon 860k performs better dollar for dollar in single threaded applications and is cheaper, uses less power, and has a higher out of the box clock speed.  The 8320 just doesn't make sense for new gaming builds right now.

Go i5 for gaming.

Peripherals: Sennheiser HD518 & Classic ModMic | Corsair K65 Luxe | Zowie EC2 | ASUS VG259QM  |  ASUS VG278E | Klipsch ProMedia 2.1

he is not talking about that cpu, especially since it's a stupid cpu .

I'm just saying, if you can afford an i5, get an i5 all day long .
