AMD fx 8120 One core?

NiteoGFX
Go to solution Solved by JamGorby,

In case it hasn't been mentioned yet, hit "Windows Key + R". In the run box that pops up type "msconfig.exe" and hit enter. This should start msconfig.

Click on the "boot" tab then click "advanced options". In the box that opens up, you'll see a tick box for "Number of processors". Normally, this should be unticked and the list-box under it should be grayed out. If you find it in any other condition, try ticking the box (if unticked) and setting the number of cores to zero and then reboot. If it doesn't allow you to set the number of cores to zero then set it to 8 and reboot.

So in my pc i am running a amd fx 8120, and it only seems to be using 1 of 8 cores? i have looked for a few weeks as how to fix this with no results..
i have windows 8.1 64 bit i think..

Any help is better than none, thanks guys.

Heyyo,

Please check your BIOS. I'd look through it to see if you have a setting like "Limit CPU Cores" or something like that.

What brand and model is your motherboard btw?

umm no.. id be happy with 4 cores and 8 logical processors.

In task manager, Cores: 1 Logical processors: 2

core trolls raided your PC.

happened to me back in the Conroe days....

Spam the Delete, F2 or F12 keys (not sure which would do it for you since it's different for every motherboard sometimes) when you boot up the PC to get into the BIOS. Then navigate to Advanced BIOS Features and see if there's anything about cores disabled or something rather.

shut down.

turn back on,

start mashing F2 F10 and delete, whichever one gets you in is your BIOS key.

once you're there you should be able to open every menu and find out what you're looking for.

ive always shyed away from F12 to get to BIOS cause on thsoe old dell office machines F12 is like some boot selection crap. i think it was like 'boot from network'' or whatever. xD

Seems to be nothing of the sort. Closest thing that I see to it would be "Core C6 State".

In my BIOS it states "8 Cores Running @ 3100 MHz 1175mV"
So is it something to do with windows 8.1?

Has anyone considered core parking? OP, try running Prime95 and see if you see all of the cores running.

Actually, can you take a few pictures in BIOS and post them here? I'm thinking that maybe you probably just missed the setting to get the cores working.

Well... I'm out of ideas, sorry. Might have to resort to reinstalling Windows if nobody can help.

By backing up your data. Otherwise, no. So wait for more ideas first.
