Does this board need BIOS update before using i5-4460

Pcpartpicker says this "Some Intel H81 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Haswell Refresh CPUs.".

Do this board need the update? If so will I as someone who never done this before be able to do it? I mean is it something like installing OS?

It requires BIOS 1.50, usually there's a bios revision sticker on the motherboard so you could e-mail them.

But big chance you will need to update it first.

Yes it most likely needs update.

MSI H81 boards that are marked as revision V2 usually have the BIOS updated.

Thank you. In case I would need to do this (now or in the future), could you compare the difficulty of updating BIOS to something like installing operating system or putting computer components together? I need to know if I will be able to do it in case I would need to.

One more question. Would the computer start in some safe mode or it would not even boot up before updating it?

To update a motherboard's BIOS you would either 1) Have a previous generation compatible CPU (in this case a Haswell CPU like the 4440 to use a Haswell Refresh CPU like the 4460), or 2) Your motherboard needs to be able to update the BIOS via a USB, but only High end boards are known to do it like the ASUS ROG series and the Sabertooth series.

Also BIOS updating is risky. If your power goes out while updating, it's over your motherboard is bricked, AKA dead.

But it's not that complex, manufacturers like ASUS have a quick guide on how to do it on their site.

So in other words If I want to use i5-4460 the board in this budget range need to be updated before I buy it. So I guess I will look for some different board then. Thank you.

Hmm it says that it may need the update on all the boards I can fit into my budget. Even those with v2 like

MSI H81M-E35 V2/ IntelH81/ LGA1150/ DDR3 1600MHz/ mATX

MSI B85M-P33 V2/ IntelB85/ LGA1150/ DDR3 1600MHz/ mATX

May need

but V2 means second batch which are Haswell Refresh ready

otherwise grab H97 boards

Thank you it says that H97 should be compatible. Even thou in my store cheapest h97 is 40 euro more expensive than the one I originally picked. I will ask them in the store if it is updated or if they could provide that. If not I will probably look at another version of i5 or supporting board. Thank you all.
