[Finished] Project: Diamond in the Rough

ClownFace1511

Back Story:

I got in contact with a guy through my mum. He said he had lots of computer parts due to the fact he just upgraded. So i went over to his house and got a boot load of dusty computer parts. From first glance it looked like mainly old stuff, very dusty, not very usable. I took it home, cleaned everything only to find some really neat parts. Yes the stuff is kinda last generation but it still performs well, it wont be my main rig, maybe just a backup, or i could give it to my brother (or nah). So here we go, all these parts in the list below is what i got for free, don't be jelly.

Parts List:

Case: Silverstone Raven RV02

CPU: Core i7 2700K LGA 1155

CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-12S

Motherboard: GA-Z68X-UD7-B3

Ram: Corsair Dominator 4x2gb 1600 MHz

Graphics Card: Gigabyte GTX 660 OC

Power Supply: Corsair TX750w

Hardrive: Adata Premier Pro SP900 128gb

                WD Black 1TB

OS: Win 7 64bit

Fans: 3x Silverstone 180mm

           1x Noctua 120mm fan

Extras: Disc Drive (not sure which one)

USB 3.0 Front Pannel Slot thing.

Tweaks:

The GTX 660 OC has a custom fan curve. Fans start to spin at 20% once it hits 60 degrees celsius. On system idle the gpu runs at 30 degrees while 54 degrees at load, the fans slightly spin at 10% when the system is at load.

The noctua on the cpu is only a 3pin so i used the low noise adapter that came with it. Not sure how much rpm it is running at but its silent. Idle temps are at 24 degrees. Have not done load temps yet.

Havn't overclocked the system (apart form the factory overclock on the gpu) and im getting 58fps with temps of 54degrees in Eugene Valley Benchmark on Extreme HD (Ran for 1.5hrs). Not too bad for a system i got for free.

Yeah very annoying. But dont mind this case tbh, its a bit long but i really like the airflow. It keeps everything cool and pretty easy to work with.

Hey ClownFace1511,

You got really lucky with those parts. :)
I would recommend checking the storage drives for errors before you trust your data to them. I would recommend using the manufacturer's diagnostic tool. For the WD Black that would be WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=Jt3X2q

If this helped you, like and choose it as best answer - you might help someone else with the same issue. ^_^

The adata one i got on special for like $70 and im using a wd black from my main rig. Im buying a 4tb black for my main system so imma give the 1tb to that system. I have had it for 2 years and works good :)

PB Blaster works good on stickers, as long as the panel is away from the rest of the rig.

Its not very difficult actually. TBH its probably easier if you have the case on the floor as you just lift the top panel (or leave it off) and there's no reaching around and fumbling to plug things in and out.

On topic the Raven series is pretty badass, so much so I've the latest one myself. You won't get better air cooling OP, top case for over clocking. Plus, you lucky sod getting an i7 2600 for free.

Air cooling is a breeze (get it :)) Im running the gpu with fans off and under full load it is 56 degrees, Cpu is running at 900rpm at maxing 50 degrees. Im very happy with the system. My main rig doesn't perform that well.
