Modder gets Windows XP running on an LG G-Watch

The aged desktop operating system (OS) has been demonstrated in a YouTube video (below) running on the original LG G Watch in an extremely trimmed down version.
 

Video blogger Dave Bennett explained that he had to do some serious slipstreaming with Winmaker to keep the upload under 12 hours.
 

The result removes the GUI and most of the drivers and runs a windowed command line.
 

The result, at face value, is a little underwhelming but, considering that Bennett had only to install a BOCHS server and run his diminutive OS, the point wasn't so much to do anything practical, sensible or useful, but to climb the mountain because it was there.
 

As he himself explained:

"This has no practical use, it's a proof-of-concept to show that this is really cool. Something that once took lots of components and parts can now run on your wrist."

Bennett has previously demonstrated running a Minecraft server on Android, and we're keen to see what he comes up with next.
 

The LG G Watch was the first Android Wear device to reach the market and remains one of the few to opt for an oblong screen.
 

Despite being on the shelves for less than a year, the device can be considered 'end of life' as many of the new features for Android Wear, including WiFi support, are not available for it owing to hardware limitations.

Well considering the CPU in smartwatches is far more powerful than the Celeron 300A I had running XP flawlessly, and the small fact that it uses less than 100MB of RAM. Its a very lightweight OS. Almost as small as Puppy Linux (though I never quite got XP fitting on a 420MB HDD).

Not that useless in theory you could have a monitor, mouse, keyboard all hooked up wireless and you would literally have a PC running from your wrist.

Problem is the screen needs to high enough resolution to be able to see the icons and read text, which by the looks of it in the video, could be quite difficult.

Runs XP on G-watch, first thing you see is Cmd. Also how can you read anything on that Cmd? My eyes would pop out.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

I think you missed my point you would also have a Monitor/TV hooked up wireless.

So you would get a full PC experience but it's running form your wrist instead of a full PC tower.

This could also be done with a phone many people wouldn't even need a PC anymore that way.

If you could somehow connect a monitor, yeah that would definitely make it usable. 

 

Kind of like the Asus Padphone - you carry your PC around with you as a watch or phone and then connect wirelessly to an interface. We're getting very close to that. The Intel compute stick is one such device.

Yeah, my favorite part of the video was watching him do, well, nothing with it.  

 

Cool proof of concept though, I guess.

This isn't the first time someone has run Windows on a watch.  A while back a dude managed to get Windows 95 to run on a Samsung Galaxy Gear Live.

In terms of processing power we've got to be getting close, haven't we?
