NSA planned to use the Play Store to implant spyware on target smartphones

The top-secret document, obtained from NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, was published Wednesday by CBC News in collaboration with The Intercept. The document outlines a series of tactics that the NSA and its counterparts in the Five Eyes were working on during workshops held in Australia and Canada between November 2011 and February 2012.

The main purpose of the workshops was to find new ways to exploit smartphone technology for surveillance. The agencies used the Internet spying system XKEYSCORE to identify smartphone traffic flowing across Internet cables and then to track down smartphone connections to app marketplace servers operated by Samsung and Google. (Google declined to comment for this story. Samsung said it would not be commenting “at this time.”)

As part of a pilot project codenamed IRRITANT HORN, the agencies were developing a method to hack and hijack phone users’ connections to app stores so that they would be able to send malicious “implants” to targeted devices. The implants could then be used to collect data from the phones without their users noticing.

Like there is not a method that allows them to do it either way?  <_<
If they want to do it, they will do it.

Fear sells.

Only for as long as it appears to be legitimate, and the general populous doesn't realize you only promote fear to strengthen your own position.

Really starting to wonder if we'll ever get out from under this government. We seriously need a convention of states to remove them ALL from power and re-constitute the government into what it should be. A true democracy instead of this BS "representative" system that's only led us to corruption.

The only phone that will break the floor when it falls.

Seriously it has multiple advantages, using it as weapon, and avoiding from being spied on. ^^

"NSA and its counterparts in the Five Eyes"

So, not just "Murica". The UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada were also part of this.

For **** sake Five Eyes what the hell were you thinking? It's like Hydra/Shield in real life. I agree with the two above me, Nokia here I come.

"Normandy" i7 4790K - GTX 970 - Phantom 410 (Gun metal) - Z97 Extreme4 (asrock) - 128GB Crucial SSD - 1TB WD HDD - H60 Refurb. - 7 case fans | G710+ Keyboard, G230 Headset, Acer GN246HL Monitor.

Quick thoughts on system: I7 is extremely quick and I'm glad I spent the extra for hyper-threading. I regret my decision to get the GTX 970, it has horrible coil whine. There isn't any excuse for this terrible whine I and others are having. I HIGHLY recommend a 144hz monitor. Future Improvements/upgrades: Rubber fan mounts, basic speakers, more ram (for a total of 16gb), replace GPU.

144hz is love. 144hz is life. I like to submit unfinished posts then do about 20 edits. I like the Night Theme too.

Space Journal #1: So Apparently i  was dropped on the moon like i'm a mars rover, in a matter of hours i have found the transformers on the dark side of the moon. Turns out its not that dark since dem robots are filled with lights, i waved hi to the Russians on the space station, turns out all those stories about space finding humans instead of the other way around is true(soviet Russia joke). They threw me some Heineken beer and I've been sitting staring at the people of this forum and earth since.

And this is why I use Google's services as little as possible.

Considering hte attendees, I'm guessing it was mostly about phone security. If it was about PC, Microsoft would have been there too.

We really need a new phone OS that has no affiliation with any tech company. Something built and maintained by a bunch of good hackers. Mr Torvalds, are you reading this?
