Hey everyone! First post on the forum, so if this question has been asked before I apologize! :).

I'm currently an Australian student looking for a powerful laptop with the intention of doing intense gaming and sound production work, as I'm doing music technology. For this reason, I'm looking for a quiet machine with a 15.5" screen or above, as the 14" laptop I have at the moment is not enough. I have looked at a lot of laptops and I'm pretty sure I know what to get, but I just wanted to see what you guys could come up with!

I'm willing to do some upgrading myself (even the screen if necessary).

I have a budget of $2000 and I'm absolutely sure I can't carry an mITX system around Uni :).

Are you living at home or at the hostel?

I would suggest a cheap laptop with a gaming PC

The BBQ: i7-4770 / 212x / Tri-X R9 290x 1075/1400 / MSI H87-G43 GAMING / EVGA G2 850W / Corsair Spec 03 / Samsung 840 EVO 250gb SSD / Toshiba 2TB HDD / 8gb Kingston DDR3 1600mhz

Peripherals: G710+ / G502 / Bose Companion 2 Series III / Audio Technica ATH-M40x / Sound Magic E50

Monitors: Dell U2414H

The Y50 is quite overpriced in Australia, with the starting price being $2000. I have been looking at several sites who stock the Clevo lines and they can cost as much as the ROG models :/.

I'm at home around 3 days a week. I'm recording at various peoples houses, recording and gaming, and in the Uni studios the rest of the time. Trust me I'm quite bummed about not being able to build my own system, it is on my list of things I want to do once it is a viable option.

@Camaran - Thanks for the suggestions! I'm happy to see another Aussie as well! I'm sad to say those don't have the cooling I need, I fear they will overheat. :(

@ThatCoolBlueKidd - I'm afraid they cost around $3000 in Aus :/

@Camaran - I've been looking at those for a while, and they look really cool ( :P ). In opinion if I'm going to be taking a laptop cooler around I may as well buy a rig in the Asus ROG G750 series range, since you can pick up the older Nvidia 800 series laptops for under $2000 :/

@RZeroX - I've been looking at laptops like the Acer Nitro 15! They look like very promising options! :3.

The 3 laptops I'm finally considering are the:

- Lenovo Y50
- Acer Nitro 15
- Clevo N150SD
