Ram may be fried

Very recently my computer shutdown unexpectedly. My monitor flashed a few times and nothing plugged into my usb ports were working. And then is just turned off.

I could turn it back on but it would ask if i wanted to scan my files for errors, i tried this and i let it run for hours and even overnight but it never finished. I eventually took everything out and cleaned everything, then i noticed my ram was a little brown towards the the edges. I put everything back and eventually it turned back on and it's working fine now but i feel wary using that ram.

Is it the ram that caused the issue or was it some other component in my computer? Should i buy new ram or should i be fine for now?

Sounds more like OS corruption and/or disk failure. You can run MemTest86+ to test the RAM.

Didn't find any problems with the RAM. But i'm still concerned because i really don't want to lose everything on this hard drive.

What should I do? Because i don't really have the money for a backup hard drive or a new OS

Back it up anyway you can, then reinstall windows.

If that doesn't help, you're going to need a new HDD.

Just FYI you don't need money for a new OS. You can reuse your old license, just do a clean install.

I've actually done this a few times now (I don't remember why but at least 3 time), so if there is something wrong with the OS for some reason i'd rather buy a new one. I may try this anyways in a few days when school is over and i don't need to worry too much about a temporary loss in my computer.

I've been trying to ask people if i could temporarily backup my important files on their computer but nobody wants to give up the space Dx

I guess I'll just have to save money until i can get a new hard drive

You can download a new os and just use your key to activate it.
