What exact PSU. You should be able to, but not all 500w psu's are equal.

^^^^^ Get a GPU and CPU or else you would be wasting money.

860k and R9 280 should be fine fine for you. You might also need a motherboard upgrade for CPU, MSI A78M E35 is a great board.

Provided that power supply is decent quality and has the proper power connectors, yes, you'd be fine.

That CPU will dictate performance over the video card in certain games, but if you don't want to upgrade it then that's just something you'll have to work around. I still think a video card upgrade is worth it more often than not, though.

Makes it quite simple, no.

If you really want a better gpu, you need a better cpu..

If you really still want to upgrade, then i'd suggest start with the CPU and get an i5.

EE-ATX-500W-IR

That PSU is nowhere near 500w.

EE-ATX-500W-IR_slika_O_34116021.jpg

It only has 18A on 12V rail which makes it 216W.

psu_005.jpg

decent 500w psu has double that. Highly unlikely that it will work.

And you will be bottlenecking your card like hell with the pc you have at the moment.

But with a 970 you will be using nearly 500 watts which that crappy psu can't provide.

Doesnt the 750k have better IPC than the Piledrivers? It could be quite ok if you oc it nicely. He can still upgrade his cpu later down the road, if he spends his money on a 280 now and later upgrades his cpu he will yet again have to buy a new gpu.

More like < 300 Watts, but still more than this PSU can reliably provide.

Sorry, but at a minimum you'll need a better power supply to run a GTX 970. You could get by with your CPU and motherboard, though as I said earlier, it's going to slow you down in some games.

The other alternative is to go with a different video card with a lower power demands, such as a GTX 750 Ti. It's only a little faster than an HD 7770 but needs even less power.

get 750ti, it will not max anything but you won't have to upgrade the psu atleast.
