Embargo was up today. We release on both platforms simultaneously for important embargo releases, and we felt that this was one of them.

It's on Vessel too if you want to watch it over there! :)

New product releases will be available on Vessel and Youtube at the same time. Along with the WAN Show, and show coverage such as CES or Computex. :)

Does the embargo thing apply internationally?

I remember Some tech guy showing off the Zenfone 2 here in a Morning News Show last week.

I also thought that "Wow even tech youtubers still don't have videos of it yet."

The majority of the issues can be fixed with a software update but what really worries me about smartphones at this price point is longevity. Sure it's a powerhouse and has a list of great features, the dual sim is awesome for folks who want to travel abroad and the Micro SD is a nice addition as well! But given Asus' history of slacking off when it comes to software updates it really makes me weary to recommend this phone to someone. Yes it's $200-$300 dollars, but what good is a phone when it's running outdated software in 2 years. Asus please prove us wrong!

Each embargo differs. Not sure how strict this one was to be honest as the product had been shown off in a fairly finished form back in January.

If it was a strict, global embargo and they broke it by showing the phone on that news show, I expect they have received an angry email from their local ASUS rep :P

jeez linus its called turning down the brightness and not using it constantly to save battery.... Same thing with everything else. My 2nd gen ipod nano can survive a complete week without any brightness. So can my phone. But seeming that you do use a lot of power ehh..... get a battery bank I guess.

This does seem like a nice badass phone for a good price.

NEVER GIVE UP. NEVER STOP LEARNING. DONT LET THE PAST HURT YOU. YOU CAN DOOOOO IT

ooohhhhh so we asians got a look at it a bit earlier, hmm probably because this is the price point where most of us tend to buy phones at.

And this is why I hate youtube's crappy subscription system updates, I sometimes miss stuff.

The attention to detail of this phone is really disappointing- the seam between the back plastic and the front isn't even; it's really jagged.

bc1ae79a4e.jpg

Intel historically isn't as power efficient as ARM chips, evident on Chromebooks- k1 is more efficient than celeron/atom/core, so disappointing battery life despite the huge battery (almost double the iPhone 6) is no surprise to me.

According to Anandtech, there's a noticeable adaptive brightness (context adaptive brightness control) which is annoying to me, but I guess not as to Linus.

Camera got super overhyped by Asus at CES and performed about where I would expect it.

Overall, it seems like just another Oneplus One, a phone full of compromises that is not for me but may work for some people.

I imported one from Taiwan (to aus). Loving it. My battery easily lasts 2 days.

Picked up a third party smart cover, and I'm loving that as well. Gives you a little window to respond to calls and messages without opening up the whole phone.

I've yet to actually try the NFC out as a payment thing, but that's got me pretty excited as well. I don't think Linus mentioned NFC in the video, though I may have missed it.

Double volume tap to wake up camera? The most useless feature that anyone who listens to music will never use.

And was I the only one that was disturbed by the way he said Naruto?

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

Volume rockers so that you can actually use them when the phone is in your pants, and you can do it fromt he outside. lock, for neatness sake i guess...
