Fractal Design Define S Unboxing

I want this for my next build, but I can't decide on a 420mm+280mm set up, or dual 360mm rads...

Might be stating the obvious, but is there no option at all to mount a blu-ray drive in there?

This video demonstrates two things.

Firstly: Never trust Linus with a knife.

Secondly: Vessel viewers are a fragile bunch.

I think in the WAN show Linus wanted some feedback from the YouTube audience. I have a few comments and critics that I hope are helpful.

-I like the off the cuff unboxings but they should be done on a proper set (Like the old 2 bookshelf one).

-The camera needs a more stability (The shaky cam crash zooms are dizzying)

-The lighting needs to be more controlled. (The strong back light caused flaring and the sky is completely clipped -> Really unflattering image IMO).

-It looks like the camera was in auto exposure mode (A constant exposure would be better since it's not dimming and brightening on every closeup of anything black)

-Audio is good but still could benefit from a deadcat on the mic (Wind noise mostly + a little shirt rustling)

Switching to a shoulder mounted camera with a smooth power zoom on a proper set is what I would like to see. The format is good but I think the videography skills needs to step up to the quality that LMG is becoming known for.

First what came to mind: Linus, it isn't Aprils Fools yet, what are you doing with a fractal case outside :(

Feedback about presentation:
This felt way too rushed with an outside camera and Linus talking very quickly and almost completely unprepared about the case. That made me feel like "meh, I'd better watch a review from someone who actually gives a crap about this". It also shows little respect towards companies like fractal who just send this case to you, for free. I know you are a bigtime youtuber now who can afford that but c'mon man.

Jayztwocents quickly put some parts in the case, showing how much room you have in there, and that's really something I'd love to see.

About the product:

I am actually way more stoked about this product than the R5 or any other case. I'm no expert on cases so I don't know if it has been done earlier, but the fact that all the harddrives are now at the back is so much better. Even if you are never going to touch watercooling, the added airflow in the front of the case should be amazing !

Hey its not your fault they didn't screw the side on.

Good light and focus would be nice tho for a better look at it.

So even now that Linus could finally be bothered to unbox it you still cannot buy it....  I'm waiting Fractal.

Only thing missing in this unboxing video would be Linus dropping the case off of the railing.

I like those unboxing videos, but I was mad because I thought the Define S really deserves a dedicated Watercooling shot, even if you guys just mount reservoirs and pumps, no fluid would have appreciated, but I guess it takes a lot of time to do so still love ya all :P

I really like this case even from a air cooler's perspective. You can put quite a few fans in there and run them really really slow.

I hope the illuminated power buttons turn off completely while in sleep. I hated the way Corsair 200R's power LED breaths while in sleep, so I disconnected it. I'm thinking of doing the same with the HDD light.

I also really like the sound dampening on both side panels. (I'm not the windows-on-panels kind of a person.)

Might be stating the obvious, but is there no option at all to mount a blu-ray drive in there?

It's clearly stated in the video that there's no optical drive bay. If you need one, there are lots of other cases with 5.25" bays, or use an external drive.

All I can think is that they should make a Define S Mini. Because when you think about it it's mostly in the smaller smaller cases where you need the extra space.

hmmm i understand the reasoning behind a unboxing here, a complete review wouldn't be much dffrent then already reviewed case's from that product line

May the light have your back and your ISO low.

My butt was clenching the whole video.

After that April Fool's "unboxing", cases and ledges make me paranoid.

personally i like the return of unboxing, i feel its a great format for things where included accessories and packaging is important (cases, MOTHERBOARDS!, etc). but for this particular video i feel like there was a little... lack of commitment. i mean yes i get it, its not a product thats worth the effort and cost of a full video, but i also think at the very least it could be filmed on a proper table and not have it thrown around as much as if you didnt want to film this video and just want to go home. regardless, appreciate the video and the idea :D

as for the define s. i still dont feel like its fully thought out product. i would appreciate a more costly premium model where i have the option to add in the hdd cages (dont need the 5.25' cages, they can stay in the grave, and i personally have 3 hdd already in my system), and sound dampening in the front, maybe even a psu shroud and full screw assembly instead of rivets, etc.

I'm not necessarily interested in a case such as this, it's more the initial thought of "how on earth do you put OS in that without a drive" (i know there are thumb drive OS and external drivers, but it seems like a very strange price cut point if it is one).

Apart from that, the review was just plain bad. He couldn't care less about the product and it deserves at least some professionalism to it, if not for the very expensive shipping effort from Fractal's point as sponsors, then at least for the viewers who might be looking forward to such review.

This feels like a Define R case modded to be an H440 copy. I'm not saying that's a bad thing.

i hope you take the unboxing back inside one of the best parts about your channel also , i would love for you to maybe do a build in this case show just how much the rad space the case actually has i some how feel with those tiny front intake you cant load a rad der and mounting a triple rad on the front will absoutely kill the fans on a trip on the top . Can you please do a custom looped case in this with triple 140s or 120s just to show how it would look .

Its really the first full blown support for  water cooling mainstream case and a little more time would make is absolutely warranted if we want other manufacturers to follow suit.

This is my first post here Yayie.

Never quite liked unboxings I prefer reviews specially cause I don't get to the how it would look and all fit in real life.

That said, I felt like this video is not up to the quality u guys usually display, is not bad but not as good as usual. I understand you guys shoot a lot of videos and do a lot of reviews, but at the very least throwing some components (even if not a complete built system) would have helped with the perspective of sizes and possible layout specially since we are talking about a mostly water cooling dedicated case.

Just a suggestion guys
