Project Alternate 4K Build "COMPLETE"

Deblow

The paint job on the motherboard is amazing, good job so far!

Thanks Sage, think that's all I will be doing to the MB apart from some lighting ideas I have plan for later in the build, unless your doing a white build the MB is quite nice & easy to match to almost any color setup

I.E just swap the red for blue :)

It's funny that i also wanted the brown to be replace with either a black or a brown. I think ASUS missed out on an opportunity there.

This build just keeps on getting better and better.

Now decided where im sticking the 2X pumps, sticking with the symmetrical plans iv placed them

in front of the center of both the RADs

20150508_193343_zps4g2wicqe.jpg

Cut a hole in the bottom to help them get some air, if for any reason they sound loud I will block them again, but did this

on my last desk & they worked fine.

20150508_183934_zpsmqii1sl5.jpg

Padded the sides with hard foam to help reduce any vibrations

20150508_193115_zpsdxowa3jj.jpg

Adding 2x Phobya G1/4 water temp readers to measure the temps before & after the RADs/Components

Here you can see the removable raised platforms, RADs, Pumps & Temp sensors on place

Fitted the glass top using some chunky hinges, the glass is 5mm clear toughened,

To start with I had to make a template for the cutters

I now have the final fans needed for the RADs & desk,

Silencio FP 120 (Black) RADs

MegaFlow 200mm (Red LED) Desk

Jetflo 120 (Red LED) Desk

20150522_201142_zps5rnjv8pk.jpg

Im going to be cutting holes in the base of the MB tray & instaling the 200mm fan directly underneath,

This serves 2 purposes, keep the MB cool & the main reason was to get positive air pressure in to the desk.

In total I will be having 6/7x120mm & 1x200mm IN, 6x120mm OUT.

I will try get this done by the weekend and show you some pics, but for now heres some other bits iv been working on.

Hinges fitted, but will need some adjusting before painting..

Got my paints & been working on the smaller parts of the desk, wanted to double check the finish &

practice applying the paints before doing the bigger parts of the desk.

because of the deadly fumes in the basecoat & 2K/2pac clear, Im best doing it in 4 stages over the

space of 2 to 3 weeks.

im also short on space, so by painting the bottom sections & then letting them dry (harden) I can then

add the middle section  back on top & paint that, same for the top section.

This is the box of paints, cant believe it cost me over £100 :o

should have stuck with vinyl, would have been less messy & a bit cheaper lol

Black Basecoat with thinners, 2K/2pac clear matte with hardener & thinners

20150507_200201_zpsp8jsxclj.jpg

this is the base & thinners to be mixed for the bottom coat/base

20150525_160222_zpsyxu3qiur.jpg

primed ready for painting, still needed cleaning down at this part

20150525_152527_zpsskyfsqai.jpg

3 stages of basecoat black applied, still wet at this stage

20150525_164033_zpsdjb5ejeg.jpg

while the basecoat was still tacky I applied the clear coat, because you cant sand the base & clear during any stages as it would alter the appearance of the finish,

the whole process has to be done within about 1hrs from start to finish with no room for

errors :o

20150525_173916_zpsfhwkwg6f.jpg

From wet to dry, the photos will show how the finish changes over day

20150526_133901_zps0wibpvrt.jpg

20150526_133909_zps99wcotxi.jpg

stuck them back on the desk to see how it looks & try imagine the whole desk painted

20150526_151951_zpsljbx8n6y.jpg

20150526_152009_zpsa4abuggu.jpg

out of everything iv done so far, this painting has been the hardest part, I hope the extra effort was worth it in the end :D

What do you all think to the colour so far?

Im happy for now, but really need to see it all done & with some red added

Isn't that like unpractical as you don't have a flat area that you can use?

not really, will have more usable space with this than my last desk and most other desks you can buy, the sides fold up for storage & more flat space, the center is all flat, shelf on top & 4 under the desk, 5th to be added in the final stage when i move the desk inside.

another point to make is, this is for looks as well as use, it will do the job intended but will also look to my taste, I love my motobikes (CBR600RR) 2004 & other cars with the sharp shapes

& clean edges

Sports cars are not practical, 1 or 2 seats & sometimes no boots, thats why my wife would never let me get one, even if i could afford it lol

the center is 44" wide and almost 25" deep. thats a lot of flat area.

Practicality is usually not considered when modding PCs. You can argue that a cheap $20 case is enough to satisfy your needs, but modders usually spend $1000s of dollars on aesthetics alone.
