Benro S2 vs S4 vs Velbon PH-368

Go to solution Solved by ShadowCaptain,

hmm 24mm@2.8?

Would be good, f2.8 still gives a nice depth of field and decent low light performance

24mm is nice as it would be roughly a 35-38mm lens after crop which is much better than 80mm

Hi Guys,

Can anyone tell me the difference between the Benro S2 and S4? On Amazon, they are £5 apart.... I cant see any difference...

Also, how does it compare to the Velbon PH-368, that looks extremely good for the price..... and it has tension adjustments....

Also, i would like some sturdy, but cheap tripod legs, with a crank that is smooth for adjusting it up and down.

The Head must also be removable from the tripod, as i want to use it on a slider and stuff.

Thanks

Gershy13

AFAIK the S4 is just rated for larger heavier cameras

they are better than the velbon (wouldnt touch them)

the benro heads are decent for their price, not the best if you can afford an manfrotto mv500ah or something that would be better but he Benro S2/S4 are good for the price, for legs, well it depends

what is your total budget?

Ideally, for just the head £40ish

with legs maybe £60/70ish

thats why the benro ones are a bit over my price range...

i need the handle crank that is smooth... on the legs...

also if i could adjust the legs to go fully flat to get that low down effect, that would be nice.....

you are asking a lot for very little money

Why do you want a crank handle?

This is probably the best you will get but is over your budget, no point getting £20 legs, like at all

then you just tilt the tripod head in a smooth pan, the crank system is not for shooting video like that

you definitely would need a slider for that, a cheap tripod being cranked will wobble like crazy in your shot, even the slightest movement will appear on your video, honestly a vertical pan can be used in place of a vertical slide, for most situations ( not sure what you need your tripod for)

im afraid i dont know any tripod legs at that price that I can recommend

ok.... hmmmm

thanks, yeah i dont need a handle crank then... it doesnt have to even be adjustable... as long as its fairly sturdy, and can last for a while, also, hold a slider in the future... (although i will have 2 tripods holding it...)

i would like it if it had adjustable legs so it can go flat down to the ground, but its not a requirement...

Thanks

ok, so are you sure you cant find any legs that are around £20ish and can go flat, thats all i need, if it doesnt have a quickrelease plate, that would be better, but im cool if it does...

preferably fairly sturdy aswell....

Problem with Hama/Camlink and other cheapies are that they use really cheap, fragile and flexible plastic, so they are not very sturdy

also you normally cannot remove the head off the cheap ones

I would argue the legs are just as if not more important than the head when getting stability

they also dont fold flat and are not great when out and about the legs are not independently adjustable

Yes, but it wont be very stable as you will be putting a head AND camera on one screw which is a lot of weight on the bottom head (especially on cheap tripods)

Yeah ebay/local groups/gumtree etc might be your best idea

AFAIK the S4 is just rated for larger heavier cameras

they are better than the velbon (wouldnt touch them)

the benro heads are decent for their price, not the best if you can afford an manfrotto mv500ah or something that would be better but he Benro S2/S4 are good for the price, for legs, well it depends

what is your total budget?

so the benro s2 is what i should get?

i just realized that the benro does not have tension/drag adjustment?

but i prefer the looks of it, and i found it for £45 on ebay! so im guessing that is a DEAL!?

but i cant adjust tension, so im leaning towards the velbon......

i really like the foam padding the benro has.... but again, the tension is putting me off....

What do you mean you cant adjust tension?

That big dial on the left side is to adjust the amount of drag / or to lock it off
