Just replaced my old computer, any chance the old gal can have a second life as a server?

Hey all!

In general, I know next to nothing about servers. Literally. I learn by doing, please help me doooooo.

I replaced my 4 year old computer, sad I know, but it was her time. Core i3 3.72ghz x 2cores, 8 gb ddr3 1600, and a GTX 670 went with her. Are these components good enough to run a small local minecraft server? or perhaps host a small website/ personal email account? I dont want to throw these parts out when they have so much use left, but they wont be sitting next to my Keyboard again, thats for sure.

I have plenty of mass storage, and I can add SSDs if need be.

Really any creative ideas for giving her a second life would be grand. Thanks!

Minecraft, I'm unsure of as I've never done it. Can't see why not.

More than decent specs for a small webserver, but your internet will be the limiting factor there.

I'd recommend a file server/NAS like setup. That way it will see lots of use and help everyone in the house.

Yep, that would work fine for a small local server.

Currently I host a vanilla minecraft server on an old dell dimension e521, and it works decently well lol

honestly i know next to nothing about hosting, or web design, Id love to use it as a chance to learn.

Ive considered using it as a NAS, but Im the only person living in my house... so why wouldnt I just plug the drives into my new pc... nah, i wanna try something new. :)

It's fine, but the GPU would go wasted. I wouldn't suggest setting up a mail server unless you have a lot of time on your hands keeping out spam, but a file server/web server would be perfectly fine. My server (see my sig) has similar specs (the 16GB is shared between the host OS and the server OS), and I use or have used that for media, download, proxy, file, web (many sites) and may other severs at the same time.
