Fractal Design S non watercooled build?

Guest Console Peasant

Am looking for a case upgrade and the Define S finally is available for ~$80aud more and after extensive waiting on my part

Just wandering before I buy what LTT thinks of my build before I do it, as you can probably pick something up that I cannot.

Basically instead of watercooling just gonna put 3 fans in its place at the front, i dont need the HDD mounts or dvd mounts

Good idea?

if you're not going to use the bays either way, i guess why not.

It's not the best case to mount front fans on, given its pretty limited side intake. But in all honesty, it shouldnt hinder performance all that much.

Go for it.

I wouldn't see much of a problem. There should be enough air flow through the front.

In all honesty I wanted the S for airflow more than anything else, given the nonexistant obstacle that's intended for mounting the reservoir. Don't forget you also have the bottom to mount fans, 240 max? or 1 140mm fan.

tbh I think the define S is worth getting, its mot just for the watercooling, the design is great too

I have a pretty big PSU though so it might not work :P What is that fan used for anyway? the gpu?

the front intake is not really limiting the Define S, 90% of the people won't have problems, those other 10% live somewhere in the dessert :P

CPU: Xeon 1230v3 - GPU: GTX 770  - SSD: 120GB 840 Evo - HDD: WD Blue 1TB - RAM: Ballistix 8GB - Case: CM N400 - PSU: CX 600M - Cooling: Cooler Master 212 Evo

What about a push config?

You would want to have positive air pressure so that dust doesn't build up inside the case. As long as the front of the case has a dust filter, you would want to keep them as intakes.

I think this case does but good to double check, thanks
