CORSAIR AXi series AX760i any good ?

MrTopSodaPop
Go to solution Solved by CapricaBuccaneers,

As regards the Corsair PSU get the Seasonic version AX760 (no i) the AX760i has issues with the Corsair link software and is a Flextronics unit.

Evga? I don't see why people are comparing a Gold 80+ to a Platinum with different wattage, even if it's only 10w.

Here the price difference for me is less than £15 ( £99.99 vs £113.98 ) which is not what I'd call prohibitive.

Compare the Evga 750 G2 to their own 750 B2 version. The B2 is £68.60 here which is more than double the price difference and is rated a 9/10 by jonnyguru: http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story6&reid=393

For every reason anyone would give you for stepping down from an 760w 80+ Plat to an 80+ 750w Gold, I give you their B2.

If £14 for a Plat with 10w more isn't worth it, then going from a Bronze to Gold for £31 of the same wattage definitely isn't.

Be careful of how and what people recommend to you.

i was looking at getting the

CORSAIR AXi series AX760 760W   but then i seen the 760i has Integrated Corsair Link Monitoring and Control so  thought for the $20 more it might be a good idea but im not sure if the Integrated Corsair Link Monitoring and Control makes a differences or not so if anyone knows what it does that would help

thanks

Where you getting those prices from ?

The EVGA G2 750W can be bought for £89.99 - http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/220-g2-0750-xr.html

Corsair AX760 is £134.99 - http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/powersupplies/651wto850w/cp-9020045-uk.html

You can get the HXi for £119.12 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00MFD3KZC/?tag=pcp0f-21

There may be other stores selling the above units cheaper. I am just going off pcpartpicker.

At the time I posted those prices were from only from Ebuyer and Amazon, since they regularly price match, depending on who actually had stock.

Corsair AX760 I paid £113.98 from Amazon (Not going to be showing my cc receipt so here's proof of it) http://uk.camelcamelcamel.com/Corsair-Professional-Series-Modular-Platinum/product/B00A74X9SO?context=browse

I looked it up on google with free shipping and the AX760 is £129.86 from Ballicom http://www.ballicom.co.uk/cp9020045uk-corsair-ax760--power-supply--internal---atx12v-231-eps12v-292--80-plus-platinum--ac-100240-v--760-watt--active-pfc--united-kingdom.p874381.html

Evga 750 G2 is down to £98.07 still on Ebuyer http://www.ebuyer.com/630112-evga-supernova-750w-fully-modular-80-gold-power-supply-220-g2-0750-xr

Evga 750 G2 Argos still sells for £99.99 for an exact price match http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3049484.htm?CMPID=GS001&_$ja=cgid:12488287010%7Ctsid:59158%7Ccid:200223050%7Clid:98807067410%7Cnw:g%7Ccrid:58057474370%7Crnd:11668127849092384410%7Cdvc:t%7Cadp:1o1%7Cbku:1

Evga 750 B2 is still £68.60 at Ebuyer http://www.ebuyer.com/660111-evga-supernova-750w-semi-modular-80-bronze-power-supply-110-b2-0750-vr

Nobody mentioned any HX series, HXi or otherwise. Notice you failed to price quote the 750 B2 at all.

I wouldn't touch Novatech with a barge pole, if someone else wants to that's their call.

I'm sure I can find different prices if I really looked around, but I'm not claiming to offer any comprehensive service.

I'm still left wondering why anyone can't answer why the G2 is so much better than both the AX 760 and the B2 for budget restrictions though.

I think the main reason the EVGA G2 gets suggested is it is usually the cheapest high quality unit for it's price. Most of the high end Corsair units (AX/i, HXi etc) are usually more expensive so they don't represent good value for money. The EVGA B2 is a great budget choice as is the Super Flower Golden green which it is based on.

Yep just checked Amazon.co.uk the G2 is back in stock. The B2 still isn't though, so have to look elsewhere.

While on Dabs I found another Seasonic oem 750w 80+ Gold for £72.78 with free delivery, in stock - the Antec 750w True Power Classic: http://www.dabs.com/products/antec-750w-true-power-80-plus-gold-92--max-efficiency-psu-9PSS.html?refs=55430000&src=3

There's also another thread here where the OP is using U.S.e-tailers and has found an Antec HCP-750 for less than the Evga 750 G2. $109.99 after rebate vs $124.01: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/361330-which-750w-power-supply-would-you-reccomend/

G2 price by comparison same e-tailer: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=evga+750+g2&N=-1&isNodeId=1

If you want to tell me how a G2 is worth $14.02 - by prices available right now - more than that HCP-750, I'm all ears. Otherwise stop beating a dead horse.

The USA gets some crazy good deals on power supplies. That Antec is currently a steal at $85 after rebate. The EVGA GS 650W is also currently $64.99 which is a very good deal.

Anyway none of this discussion is helping the op as He is in Oz  :)
