MSI Z97 Gaming 5 +Intel i7 4790k OR 7 +Intel Core i5 4690K

There is a 300 PLN [83 USD] difference between these two sets and I don't know if I should save up and get the bundle with the i7 or the i5?

Which motherboard is better?

I know it's usually better to go with the most expensive stuff I can get but is the price difference worth it (the different motherboards and CPU's)?

Soo confused :(   please help me decide

[My current computer is around 6 years old - dual core AMD CPU - time to upgrade]

I will mostly game, but I also do short films so I don't want to have to wait too long for renders to get done (I want something 4k ready cause' I rarely upgrade)

If you want to render stuff in 4k, I would go for i7 because it is better for rendering.

Go for the i7 and the Gaming 5. It's a great mobo, gets stable overclocks like a champ.

Is this for gaming? If so, go for the i5.

by all means get the i7...the gaming 5 motherboard is perfectly fine and has all the same features.

I looked on the MSI website and according to them the I7 4790k is not supported by the board but on the store website where I found this deal there are 3 reviews with 5 stars - so is it compatible or not? 0.o it also looks like that the board only supports MSI GPU...is that true?

Of course it is compatible with any 1150 socket cpu.

And of course not, it isn't compatible only with "MSI gpus." There's no such thing.

Look into my specs.

OK thanks. Since you have the board I have a question - do I have to fill out at least two slots or can I get 1x8Gb of RAM?

I'm going to go with what you have - Intel i5 4690K, MSI Z97 Gaming5 than to add to that: HyperX DDR3 2x 4GB 1600MHz CL9 XMP Savage and Corsair 100R windowed version

Nah, you're fine only using single channel. But it would be better if you used 2 dimms to take advantage of dual channel.

The MSI website will allow you to directly compare the 5 to the 7.

But the differences are not great - the 7 has 2 more SATAIII headers, a few more rear USB ports, SPDIF audio, Display Port on the I/O and it gives up VGA out for an extra HDMI port, etc.  Otherwise they are identical.

Unless you absolutely need those features there is no reason to spend the extra money for the Gaming 7 board.  Better to spend it on the i7.
