hard drive not being detected, but light on.

Froger96

hello all, been a while,

so i recently went on a trip from the south of england to the north. its a 6 hour drive and i took my hard drive and my tablet. with my hard drive having all the movies on it. i have an asus eee pad, so it has two usb ports so i can plug my hard drive in. on the way up. my hard drive stopped being detected from one of the ports, so i switched to the other and it worked fine.  for a while, and then it stopped working, i dont think it was spinning, but when i plugged it in, it has a solid incicatory light straight away, no flashing like normal. so after this i thought it mihgt jsut be my tablet, but now i am at college on the mac and it is not being detected at all, i cant check if it works at home till i get home and i need it at college. when i get home i will try plugging it into my MB directly, not through USB. but does anyone have any ideas that do NOT involve formating. there is some valuble data on there. i have tried using my friends USB cable and it didnt work. and different USB ports, so i do think it is the drive. any ideas.? thanks in advance for any help.

From my own experience I'd say that its just USB interface that has stopped working. Does it have solid cable or detachable? Try to wiggle cable around, if its just connector being loose.
