"I wish you the success you have prepared for."

Shakaza

Is what my math teacher always says to us before we take a math test. Tomorrow, my calculus class is going to take the AP calculus exam. Most of the class, including me, is going to take the AB portion, while around 5 are taking the BC part, which is harder and more comprehensive. I probably could do fine on it, but I decided not to take it because my brother didn't and is doing just fine at college. (He got an internship with Google and goes back again this summer. I'll miss him, though. :(

I wanted to share this because I've always loved that phrase. I did a Google search for it this morning, and I discovered that the only other people who had posted it were others who were in his class. I feel like it should spread, especially since this is his last year of teaching. The cool thing is, he even taught my mom. That's how long he's been there, and he is the best teacher I've ever had, and undeniably my favorite.

So, what do you guys think? Have you ever had someone who said or did something inspirational in your life?

As a side note, I feel now that the final chapter in my high school career has arrived. That it'll finally bring some closure. I know I'll be going to college soon, but things feel different now. Finally. :D

That's a great quote. I should have screamed it before we did the last day of finals today ;)

After a couple weeks of behavioral sciences at my school I can easily conclude my parents need to grow up.

I currently do not, and never have, studied for tests. 90% of the time I get an A.

My issue has always been doing the f**king busy work they give you between tests. Can't stand it. Just tell me what to read, and give me a f**king test, I don't need busy work, also known as "homework" to pass a test.

The exception being math, I hate math, I see no reason for not just using a f**king calculator, when will you ever need advanced mathematics, and not have access to a calculator or smart phone with a calculator?

I wasn't serious when I said that. :P But, it is a nice feature, aside from the great food, homework that actually seems to mean something (according to my sister), and a large, thriving community. It seems to be a good college all-around. Two of my favorite teachers went there, actually. Including the one who said the quote.

Well, my math teacher has always said that the important thing isn't learning how to do all these things that most of us will never use in our lives, but that we're learning how to learn. That we're becoming smarter by pushing our brains to their limits, increasing our problem-solving skills, and gaining a deeper understanding of how things work. I agree with him, but you can believe what you want.

Calculus is the real bummer for me since you literally cannot use a calculator for anything.

That IS important, but it's better accomplished by learning things you WANT to learn. Not things you're required to learn but have no interest in. Personally I believe that the internet is the future for learning, and that Wikipedia is still forbidden as use for citations in papers because educational institutions view it as a threat. Why bother with schools when, if you need to know something, you can just wiki it? Yeah, it can have errors, but it's also capable of being more up to date than any hard copy text book can ever be. In independent reviews, it had and average of 4 errors per scientific article, whereas encyclopedia brittanica had 3, not a huge difference.

I'd rather be working somewhere in the IT security field than sitting in my parents house taking ECPI online. Right now, "dead end" jobs (cashier jobs) are impossible to get if your an educated white male living in rural virginia (no racism intended, I'm just describing my situation. I see people working at walmart who could qualify for disability based upon their apparent mental status)

Well, since math is required to take in school, you might as well apply yourself, especially if you're going into a job that requires high-level math, such as Chemistry or Computer Engineering. Those are the two main majors I'm considering at college. I think I'll stick with Chemistry, but I dunno. xD

But, to be honest, I've never understood the reluctance of teachers to allow Wikipedia. It's just fine as a source if it's properly cited. Most of my teachers allow me to use it, as long as it does have citations.

Your understanding of how it will be and how you think it's going to be is most likely way off, until you first experience it for yourself. There are many things I don't know myself...

Why not just use the sources cited rather than the site that aggregates the sources?

My previous response still stands.

Regardless, I'm done being afraid. I've had enough of that already. I need to take it in stride because it's just another part of life. I need to move on because this high school has been just bad memory after bad memory.

Sounds nice in theory, it's meaningless when it comes to a math test: You don't prepare for them, you just know how to resolve or or not.

Oh no I'm not trying to paint a negative outlook here, by all means approach whatever your going to face with the confidence you have.

I'm just saying that a open and adaptive take will need to be made when things change, a lot of people don't adjust well or just refuse to adjust to the changes that come around when your on your own. Your in full control of your own actions so there is always a way you can take something bad and turn it into something splendid, whether you do it or not depends on your perseverance and will.

Precisely: most people should know the answers out of interest in the subject not blunt force memorization the night before and busywork it's just another way to force people into memorizing data and not actually achieve understanding and henceforth learning.
