Graphics card question

Swegly

I bought this http://www.netonnet.se/art/dator/komponenter/grafikkort/nvidia-pci-e/asus-geforcegtx970black/214018.7063/

but after the whole thing with 3.5vram I have been kind of regretful especially since I definately play to upgrade to 1440p in the near future.

So my question is, save the card or get back 700kr (roughly 85 dollars), and go for this - http://www.netonnet.se/art/fyndvaror/dator/fyndvaror-datorkomponenter/grafikkort/asus-xr9290xmatrixplatinum4gb/X215050.7282/OR THIS http://www.netonnet.se/art/dator/komponenter/grafikkort/amd-pci-e/asus-r9290xdc24gb/217771.7064/

Im not a fan of either red or green, I am neutral but I do like MFAA on the 900 series. I think since I will upgrade to 1440p soon that the 290x will be better for future games @ 1440p because of the full 4gb vram. Also I would like to know whether my PSU is enough to crossfire with the 290x and which of these 290xs is the best option.

There's no need to do that, just enjoy the card.

The 3.5GB vram thing was kinda blown out of proportion. It's not /that/ bad.

but wouldn't it be better premorming at 1440p with a 290x and also worth getting the extra 80$ back to put into a 1440p monitor

I personally wouldn't, the 290X is a pretty hot card and the 390x will drop sometime soon. I'd still recommend the 970, even for 1440p.

If the 970 fiasco really concern you, grab a cheap 760/7950 as temporary card and wait for R9-390(what ever they will call it) in a few months. They will announce the card this June at Computex btw.

I think the whole 3.5 thing is bad from a marketing/honesty standpoint but performance wise the 3.5GBs is not a big deal. Linus said it best. By the time you fill that 3.5 GB you are running so much that the card is struggling with it anyway. Having the extra .5 won't help. Its still an absolutely fantastic card you should be happy to have... I am about to buy one myself. Another example is I think ncix youtube channel ran tests. They tried to fill the full 4GB to see how much it effects the card in gaming by the time they got to the 4GB limit they were running on 4k and the card was only able to output 15 frames because of the ultra high settings.

Put the most simple way I can think of is think of the Vram as a backpack, having a bigger one allows you to carry more things, which is great! But only if you're able to carry it! If you can only lift 50kg then having a bag that can carry 100kg is pointless and a waste, as you would buckle under the weight. 3.5GB is more then enough for the 970 in almost all cases.

If your wanting to switch for ethical reasons then go for it man, but I wouldn't switch because of performance reasons.

Edited because I'm dyslexic.

Thanks that really puts things in perspective for me but what do you mean switch for ethical reasons

Basically if you wanted to switch because you disagree with what they did and how they handled it... you no longer want to support them, and feel they do not deserve your money or support.
