Inexpensive Aftermarket AMD Graphics Cooler

iamdarkyoshi

My brother needs a new graphics card cooler. I made a bodgesink using an old dell heatsink and a 3d printed shroud, but I was limited on the size due to the fact that his motherboard has a soundcard right next to the card. The original heatsink went over 100 degrees within 5 seconds of benchmarking. A bit too warm.

My heatsink (which is a blower style configuration, but using a standard fan) stays at about 85 degrees under full load, and the fan is really loud. The problem is that the graphics card can be a maximum thickness of 2 slots. The existing heatsink does not go very far in the horizontal or vertical directions, so surface area is limited on my custom heatsink.

Does anyone know of a CHEAP aftermarket cooler for this HD6870? He was hoping on around 25 bucks. We arent doing any serious overclocking, as it was a really cheap card, which is an HIS brand.

The Arctic Accelero L2 is a good choice. I had one on an HIS HD 6870 myself and it worked very well. Practically inaudible even at max fan speeds.

Aren't they 2.5 slot coolers?

I think so, I'm not entirely sure. You'd have to do further research.

That one looks like it would work, and if it is too thick, I could use my existing setup that blows air in from the side and it comes out the other side. I just wish my personal crossfired 7950s would do that. They just re-heat the expelled air...
