PCIe configuration 8x and 1x

talking about PCIe devices on my pc there is one gpu on 16x lane and one wifi card above gpu on 1x slot. i was trying to put that card into 16x slot with 8 lanes but pc wont start. how do i put that wifi card below gpu while there is no 1x slots. because i suspect it overheats and it causes randomly drop my connection to 1mbps link speed and in cmd ping 192.168.0.1 to timeout.

my mother board is msi z97 g55 and pc wont boot if there is that card inserted in not a 1x slot i saw criptocurrency miners connect gpus in 1x slot so i guess its compatible in all way but maby im doing something wrong?

well your board supports onboard graphics via CPU so use that as your display output, remove all the add in cards, go into the BIOS and play with the PCI settings.

you should be able to run a gpu in a pci socket with some lanes disabled, happens with many chipsets as they share the lanes out when you use crossfire / sli / have loads of add in cards etc.
