10074 beta asks if you like google chrome

linuxfan66

I just reinstalled window 10 to new build clean once again to 10074 build. Anyway i intially noticed that it seemed to be interested in the fact i ran google chrome then a couple of hours later it asked me how likely i was to recomend it. It makes me wonder if ms is wanting to find out what apps techies use and why.  Thoughts?

MS is trying really hard to appeal to the largest target audience. They need to ever since they released that failure called Windows 8/8.1.

I use Windows 8.1 myself. I have no issues with it, but the attitude towards it is almost entirely negative.

Launchpad is the word you're looking for. I think that the Start Menu of Windows 8.1 is great for tablets but not really intuitive for Mouse and Keyboard users.

To be fair, I can see in some respects how it is a failure. The Start Menu just doesn't cut it for power users, the UI is trying too hard to cater to touch users and desktop users, etc. I don't want to have to download a different Start Menu because Microsoft couldn't design their menu correctly, I want them to design it correctly. I do still recommend 8.1 over 7 10/10 times though, as I feel it's still the better OS.

I agree. Features such as WDDM 1.3 and other performance optimizations make it a better OS for gaming or even general use on lower-end PCs.

The Start Menu just doesn't cut it for power users

Then don't use it? You can right-click on the Start button, and have a text version of the old menu.

-OR-

Just type whatever it is you're looking for at the Start screen. True power users (the ones I've met at least) don't use their mouse for everything, so the menu in previous versions of Windows was a hindrance for them.

Step 1. Install classic shell.

Step 2. You're copy of Windows 8.1 is now better than Windows 7.

Except people don't want to install something to be able to use their OS properly.

That's not a very objective statement. Some people actually prefer the shitty start screen. Also is it really that hard?

It's not the difficulty, it's the idea of something extra needs to be added in order for the start menu to return.

I'm sure we can both agree that Windows 10's implementation is the best of both worlds and also allows users to use a full screen menu.

That layout is not for everyone and the All Apps list would still take up the entire screen.

How about you keep your thoughts to yourself. No need to have pointless negative posts because you have a problem.

@OP, It would be really cool if they bundled chrome with the OS, or even implement some features from chrome into W10.

@tmcclelland455 Sure you can but for new members that come in here they are either going to 1. think this kind of negativity is okay and do it themselves or 2. scare them away because it's just stupid. You should be trying to actually be helpful and talking about something the OP posted (and yes I know I am not helping by replying to this). But hell, if you want to be a negative person then do whatever you want.

They're doing the same for Firefox as well. I think Microsoft is doing so to gain ideas to help conform Microsoft Edge to be appealing to the larger audience.
