need help choosing a SSD

cloner23
Go to solution Solved by cloner23,

Going crucial bx100 500gb

As its going in my home pc for gaming ect

Reason not samsung..pricey in South Africa, dont need all the extra features it offers ..

After everyones help here and watching reviews it simply does not make sense to go half the size for the same price range.

Real world speeds will be the same as well..boot times are 1sec apart?i can live with that :)

Thanks all for helping me decide

Hi all

From South Africa,so keep in mind our prices differ far from the US and EU

Oky so moving to SSD soon but so many to pick from..

What i did come down to are the following in my price range(the Samsung 850's are expensive here)

So these are the ones i could see would be good choices but hopefully you guys can assist me.

Crucial BX100
Trancend ss370
OCZ Arc 100
Kingston sv300
Sandisk ultra II

These all fall in my budget range(In our currency it's R1500=$130)

Note i will be going for the 256gb version,so which is the better choice here?

Thanks

Howzit Boet!

Avoid the Kingston SSDNow V300 like you would avoid the ANC Party, Its corrupt and not very good at doing what it claims to do. Out of that list, go with either the OCZ Arc 100 or the Crucial BX100 (or MX100), those would probably be at the best price/gb/performance.

I have to say that owning the sandisk it's a brilliant budget ssd without any nonsense about being slowed down.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I3 4150, Intel HD graphics, corsair CX750M, 4gb ram, Asus H81M-E, corsair 230T, Intel stock cooler WD Green 2TB Gigabyte 550TI

Why you shouldn't trust Gpu or Cpu boss Click on this I dare you!

Aaah oky thanks for the tip on the Kingston ,in my own little reviews it mostly came down to the OCZ and Crucial, but then again some say the Trancend again as well :/ this is where i pretty much got stuck as i'm ordering a ssd this coming week.

Just wish the Samsung drives were more reasonable here in South Africa..

Ok so atm

OCZ +1

Crucial +5

Kingston -1

Sandisk +1

Ill be editing this post as people recommend

I feel your pain, we've got crappy prices for everything - and that is only the stuff that makes its way to our little corner of the globe. I just stick to corsair where I can, undeniable lekker quality and customer service if something were to go wrong - Not sure if they'll fit to your 1500 Rand budget though.

I'd say either Crucial (heard a lot about them, and most of it was positive) or Transcend 370 (just because i have it :D) :D

If you want, i can post some benchmarks for 370?

BX100

This is a fast, reliable drive and you won't notice the difference between this and a faster SATA SSD

The Samsung has been that price for a while now, I've been keeping an eye on it since I also want one. If it's still there when you have the money you can get it, if it's not then takealot has the ocz arc and the crucial mx100 I think for around 1500 which isn't on promotion

I find this interesting but pc shops ive seen where i live dont even bother with samsung or intel ssds at all and only sell kingstons and ocz mainly and not even the sata/pci express ones. I was weirded out due to being used to seeing samsungs and intels constantly elsewhere.

Heyyyy another Braai Mate ! ! !

What shop you looking at getting from ?

Everyone knocks the kingstons but I've had one in my laptop for years not and its rocking. Although its performance compared to other SSD's is prob kak.

Check out LandmarkPC or even TakeALot (Got 60% of my computer from them cheaper than ANYONE else)

I was originally looking at the corsair Force drives, but yeah Intel or Samsung are very solid options

don't forget below posters that these are south African prices converted.

I would go for the 500gb, as its not like that is a slow ssd at all. maybe not as fast, but still crazy fast.

DEFINITELY the BX100. The 850 Evo is not worth that price
