Anyone know anything about car audio? Wanting to buy a new reciever.

Go to solution Solved by Kyuubixchidori,

So I'm completely new to this whole car audio scene and I want to upgrade what I have in my car (the crappy stock tuner. No tape or CD at all.) Not knowing how to go about it I went to Best Buy to look at what they have to offer only to find that the cost of installing it would be more than the tuner I had picked out.  I was also told I would need a wiring harness and a retaining clip that is specific to my make and model of car.  Both of those were also additional costs...Is there an easy way for me to source those things and simply do it myself?  If so how do I find out?  Any good sites?  Any and all help is appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

online. most wiring harnesses are just plug and play. did my car in 30 minutes, including replacing all the speakers. which are also plug and play, if you have a screw driver, your fine. best bet is to look online, and not in store.

Same here.

If you find one that is compatible with your car, then it should just be as simple as remove the old one, install the new one.

CD and tapes are not the in thing. USB and phone ports are the in thing and really good IMO. Double dins are the best thing i have come across for children or if you have bad eye sight. Most car receivers have enough power for if you just want to hear the music in the car but if you want the thumping music and big subwoofers like i do you will want a amplifier to go with your receiver.

Nope, don't need any of that stuff.  I was just saying that I don't have tape or CD to show just how crappy my radio is.

Ok, this is what I thought.  I'll just try googling and see where it takes me.  Thanks.

check out sonicelectronix and crutchfield for good components instead of wasting money at best buy. Most of the work is researching compatibility, then a bit of handywork with screwdrivers and wrenches and whatnot.

I dont know your location but if you buy from crutchfield they will provide, the wiring harness and everything you will need, as well as instructions on how to install. if you are also confused they have live support you can hit up.
