new gpu installation queries

imalex98

Hi, I am new to LTT forums. I bought a gtx 970. I will be using only 2 of the 6 ports . So, can the protective covers for the unused ports can be left on or will they have to be removed. What about the protective covers for the sli connectors. the covers are made of rubber.

You can leave them, right where they are. You just need to remove the ones for where your display cable goes and for your PCI-e slot.

Thanks for the quick replies. Another question. I live in a hot place and the temps on my new 3 fan gtx 970 is above 75c when stress testing . Are these temperatures alright. Can I over clock as the power limit usage is just 96.

You can overclock just a little bit don't get above 80c

Those temps are good.

As you said:

- Hot climate and Turbo Boost can make your gpu run faster, but a little bit hotter

One more question. The gpu needs a 6 pin and 8 pin connector. Is it necessary to run 2 separate cables from the psu or i cable which divides into two is ok? When i use 1 cable which splits, the cable becomes quite warm . What do I do?

A single cable should do it.
