Trouble with an old 24 port ethernet switch

Darkraisisi

i bought an network switch on a "Flea marker" (kingsday in holland) so i can use it on the 7 may on the lan i'm hosting with a couple of friends, but i cant figure out how to connect it

it has also a toggle button , normal and uplink

when i plug it in to the wall the power led turns on and the fans start spinning but nothing else

I tried plugging 1 ethernet cable that comes out my router in the switch and another cable out the switch to my pc (evantually more for the lan) but there was no internet connection

It is a kobishi 24 port 10/100mbps  ethernet switch , i cant seem to find more about it , (i have a standard router , no uplink port if i recall correct)

Thanks in advance

Does it have a serial/com or managment port or a reset button?

Haha, another someone who goes to flea markets ? ;)

Anyways, do you not have internet as in a small triangle on the ethernet symbol in Windows or a cross? (as in no connection)

Any other connection than a Ethernet port or a special labeled Ethernet port.

Try to look for a small black reset button.

Can you try getting to your router UI by typing its IP address in your browser?

(typically 192.168.0.1)

Pretty sure your PC can connect to the router, but the router doesn't know what to do

sounds like the switch doesnt have a designated uplink port. you'll have to go into the switch configuration and designate one yourself. although i know absolutely nothing about Kobishi and google didnt yield anything overly useful

you have to have an uplink port to plug the router into. that way when you plug the other computers into it, they actually get internet.

itll be in the router settings, but having no knowedge on that brand at all i wouldnt know how to set it up. but it sounds like its just configured wrong. theres probably even a factory reset button in the settings which could fix your problems.

you should just be able to type the ip of the router into your browser to access the settings.

sorry i meant switch not router.  same idea though, access the setting for the switch, do a factory reset, designate on port as uplink. plug the router into the uplink port on the switch, then plug your computer into the switch. should work.

@Darkraisisi What position is the "Uplink/Normal" switch on? Make sure it's on "Normal".

A switch doesn't specifically need to use an Uplink port. Those are generally backbone ports for connecting multiple switches together, or a switch to an Enterprise grade router.

For your purposes, you should be connecting a random regular port from your router, to a random regular port on your Switch (For example, Port 1 on each device), then use another port on the switch to your PC.

The IP Settings of your PC should not change at all.

Frankly seems like your switch is either a dud, or it's been custom configured (and is a Managed switch).

Could you take one or two pictures of the switch? Chances are there are still some VLANS setup....

Quite possible. Our switches at work are all setup with two VLAN's. One on ports 1-thru-26, and another on port 27-thru-48.

here are some photo of me testing right after your suggestions, randome router port and two randome switch ports and the button on normal but still no ethernet connection (this is done via wifi)
