Secondary, portrait monitor - is it a good idea?

quarien

For some time I live with only one monitor setup. Firstly - I tried to switch to one of those ultra-wide LG monitors, but after some research and thinking, I gave up on this idea.

However, the problem remains - while watching movies, gaming or whatever on my main screen, I want to have less important data on the other (mostly chats, code samples and tutorials).

I did some research, measured my desk and current setup and apparently I need something like 19inch screen - I don't really have much space for this thing, my current monitor is quite big, and I also have huge speakers taking almost rest of my place.

However - What if I used a vertical screen? I found something like this: Samsung LS22C45KMWV (or S22C450BW - this should be the same thing, only different distribution).

It's 16:10, which is great. The resolution is a bit small, but my current screen is 26 inch, 1920x1200, so there shouldn't be much distortion in PPI.

The only thing that bothers me are the viewing angles. I'm not sure if 160 degrees horizontally is enough for vertical use.

So - I have two questions. First: is it generally a good idea to have a vertical, secondary screen. Second: is this thing going to work for me?

@quarien not really bad. I sometimes put my monitors in portrait mode(mostly just one of them) when I'm doing some programming, reading, or just for viewing manga.

This is my current set-up at work. It's awesome for productivity and news. I have my news twitter feed, active directory and various guides on the left monitor. The main one is used for all the other things- remote desktop, photoshop, 3d and managing the network.

I'm thinking of one actually. I run a 50" sony TV as my main monitor. I'm thinking of a 1080p sitting beside just so I can monitor feeds, and cheat pages.

My current monitor is 26inch 1920x1200 quite old Samsung monitor. For today, compared to other IPS-LED-whatever awesome screens it's quite terrible. However for my usage (mostly coding, articles, youtube and some casual gaming) is absolutely fine.

I want to get a screen that isn't better than my main screen. Like come on - a movie or game that looks better on my secondary, smaller monitor would drive me crazy.

The screen I'm thinking of is 16:10, 1680x1050 almost oldschool TN monitor.
It's wider than 16:9, it has almost the same PPI as my main screen and it's not some fancy IPS display.

I know now, that setup like this is quite okay. How about this particular monitor?
