Want to be happy with first gpu purchase

I would like some input on getting a gpu. I have a flexible $200 budget. I have been looking at the 960s,280s,280x, Just so many options... 

I currently have i3 4160 and Corsair cx600m psu and 1080p monitor.

An R9 280X would work well here then. The Sapphire Tri-X cards are really something, but may be a bit more expensive than justifiable. You can get better prices going used, but the cards may have been used for mining.

Yep, with that budget the 280 or 280x is your best option. (280x if you can find a decent one that cheap)

with that case you won't be getting much airflow... id get the 960 if I were you. its a tiny bit less powerfull than the 280 but its a lot cooler and will be quieter

Plenty of people are selling the HD7950/HD7970 which are the EXACT same cards as the 280/280X

 

If you can find a 2nd hand bargain on a HD7950 as I got one myself recently for $110, and it does 1150Mhz coreclock from its default 1000Mhz. Under 71*c when OC'd.

With that reasoning, you could nearly buy TWO of these cheaper HD7950's (R9-280's) , and have near to almost 2x double the performance (crossfire scaling) of the 280X at a similar price.

I would personally be happy with the purchase of GTX 960 with $200~ price range.
