Installing Windows On a WD Passport

Hey, how can i partition a WD 500Gb Passport external hard drive and install windows 8.1 Pro on it. 
I want to do this in case of an OS failure i can get back up running in no time (just boot from the external drive).

But i still want to be able to used the drive as a storage drive, how can i do this?

just boot to the windows install disk with the wd plugged in and select the drive as the install drive

carry around your windows key because it will ask you for it everytime you go to a new motherboard

just be a 16gb usb 3 thumb drive and put ubuntu on it

Tried this already says can't install to that drive for some reason

well i only plan to use it on my laptop and no other computers but thanks for the advice

however some programs that i need are windows only sooo there's that lol

Well I'm on my phone now because again windows blue screened for no apparent reason it was a fresh install just avast and chrome installed... However it was updating same as last time sigh

I'll try it when I finish refresh the OS see why I need this
