My videos look pixelated after rendering.

Rayhaan Jiwani
Go to solution Solved by Rayhaan Jiwani,

I believe you are using the Project Wizard, which is giving you a Project template

Anyway, when you are in your project, to change settings press Alt + Enter which takes you to the Project Video Properties.

Change your Field Order to Progressive, and change your Frame Rate to 59.94.

Once you've done that Save it as a new template.

When you go to Render or Save the output of the video, one of the options should be "Save as Type"

In there make sure you select Sony AVC.

Then under Template, make sure you select your new template

Last you need to make sure your bitrate isnt crazy high, so click on "Custom", check all your settings - and adjust your bitrate. As you can see in my screenshot in my post above, I use 6000kbps (6Mbps) for videos im uploading to YouTube.

Are these setting ok?

Template: Custom (1920x1080, 59.940 FPS)

Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0000 (Square)

Frame Rate: 59.940 (Double NTSC)

Stereoscopic 3D mode: Off

Full resolution rendering quality: Best

Deinterlace method: Blend Fields

Adjust Source Media to better match project or render settings. Box Checked

Hello Forum,

As the title says, after rendering on Movie Studio 13 Platinum, my video looks pixelated compared to before rendering on Windows Media Player. I think it's something I'm doing wrong. I record at 1080p 60FPS, at 40Mbps using ShadowPlay. I start the project using 60Hz NTSC and AVCHD at 1920x1080-60i and then render it at by selecting AVCHD.

Thanks for your replies and I know I'm a noob but anyways! :)

Why 60i?  Hate the interlacing that happens.  Did you set a bitrate or file size target pre-render?

QUOTE ME IN A REPLY SO I CAN SEE THE NOTIFICATION!

When there is no danger of failure there is no pleasure in success.

Then what should I use?

60i is interlaced, meaning it is trying to upscale 30fps to 60fps - but since your video is 60fps, its probably converting it to 30 and then upscaling it to 60 which will ruin the quality

should be native 60p

also what bitrate are you outputting? is there an option for MP4 or something not AVCHD (very compressed)

BTW what format should I start my editing in? There's no MP4 for starting it.

You should be using Sony AVC by default for MP4, it should come standard with Movie Studio.

If its like Sony Vegas, when you go to Render you should be able to use an existing template or create a new one - you'll want to create a new one.

Set your resolution (1920*1280), your Framerate (59.94 iirc) and ensure its set to Progressive, and then select the Sony AVC encoder. You'll also need to set the bitrate in Sony AVC, this might be whats pixelating your video together with interlacing.

Personally I use the x264vfw ffmpeg implementation of the h.264 (mpeg4) codec. You can see how I set it up for 1080p @ 30fps videos that I upload to YouTube.

You should be able to do very similar.

For 1080p you should have a bitrate of 16mb/s and use 30 fps as 60i is 30 made into 60

Yes, make sure Field Order is set to Progressive.

Give the template a name and save it.

Once you've done your project then follow the rest of the steps :)
