Apple EarPods: Review

Launched back in 2012, Apple released its replacement for the aging Apple Earphones of the time. They shipped at the launch of the iPod Touch 5th Generation and iPhone 5. The iPhone variants came eqquiped with microphone as well as Play/Pause and Volume Up/Down where as the iPod varient were just straight Earphones to do a relatively basic job. Not only do they do a relatively basic job, but they don't feel as higher quality compared to the ones designed for iPhone/iPad. You can pick up Apple EarPods from the Apple Store for £25 (or $29 in the US) - so are actually fairly expensive, but that's Apple for you!

To kick off this review, let's take a look at the packaging of this device - and I must be honest, it's something Apple manages to do with a great amount of style! For those having their products shipped, I've not heard many horror stories about damaged equipment upon arrival. The Apple EarPods come with the usual sort of packaging with warranty guides and instructions on how to use.

The Apple EarPods are by far my favorite earphones I've ever used for comfort. I cannot begin to describe how comfortable I find these. Unlike every other earphones I've ever used, these will stay in my ears without having to apply so much pressure that I'm inserting them into my head as a permanent fixture. They have a Frequency Band between 5Hz and 21KHz and will crank all the way up to 109 Decibels. I've been using these EarPods for several years now, and I can conclude that there is a fairly good amount of bass as well as treble on these - although I'm no audiophile!

The malfunction controller that is featured on the Apple EarPods designed for iPhone/iPad is really been something I have found useful. Not only can it Play/Pause your music, adjust the volume and be used as a Microphone (which is of surprisingly good quality). It also has other features, such as the ability to use the '+' button to take photographs in the Camera App. Which can prove useful if you want to record or take photographs when your device is attached to a Tri-Pod.

The Other Bits and Pieces...

One point I'd like to raise however is that you really are best off buying EarPods with Remote and Mic if you're an iPod Touch 5th Gen user. I found that the overall general quality of the included ones wasn't quite as good, with the cable becoming easily damaged. The rubber on the iPhone/iPad versions are of much higher quality! You also can take advantage of the Remote Control!

The Conclusion...

So, overall, I can say that these are really great earphones. There's nothing much to say on the matter! They have good bass, good treble and have a good volume range and provide really great comfort! What's better is that they're compatible with any 3.5mm Compatiable Device (although most will not be able to take advantage of the Remote Control).

Now once again, I turn into Linus and head off to my Honda Aventador. But guys, that's it for this review - thanks for reading!

Considering the audio quality compared to other options on the market in terms of price to sound quality, they're not bad at all.

The soundmagic e10s cost around £5-£10 more which are made from a stronger material and arguably sound better.

Yeah, my bad! This is what happens when I produce reviews late on in the evening! ;)

My ears hurt within 5 minutes of using apple earpods.

I think everyone has different requirements from earphones, some people get on better with some types and others get on better with others! It's like most things in the technological world - some people may benefit from something that nobody else likes!

Sorry, but you clearly have not used foam eartips with literally any other earphones when you say the earpods are the best earbuds you have owned for comfort. Also, while it's great that it fits for you, realize that a one size fits all will never been just right for everybody. For me, they are way too small to for securely or make a nice seal.

Though I do have to agree that the earpods are very nice in terms of sound quality. However, this is almost completely negated since it doesn't produce a good seal with most people which is why in my highschool people turn it up to 90% just to hear it and because of that, everybody else hears it too.

My main IEMs are the VSonic VSD3S with the included foam eartips for $50. They sound pretty decent but the most important part about it for me is that the foam eartips completely isolate the outside so I can get enjoyable listening at like 20% volume (mind you these are 40 ohm IEMs too)

Though I do have to give you props for your review because it is a surprisingly laid out review and with pictures too. Minus being in wrong section ofc.

I must agree with you on the terms that 'one size fits all' isn't always the best, but I'm trying to give some feedback on what it's like when they do fit properly! As I said, everyone will find a product different, some may get on with them well and others not so well! I've tried a large variety of Foam Eartips and just about most kinds of Earphone designs you can buy, and I have found a lot of them to be uncomfortable and often don't ever stay in my ears (and I've tried a variety of sizes, too), which as you can guess isn't too fun!

My ears had to form to the EarPods, guess they are not right for me.

Edit: also I dont like they they go straight in the ear canal.

Love the review! These are the only earbuds I use, since others either fall out (apple's earbuds before this), or they go inside the canal, which, to me, isn't comfortable and does more harm than good when it comes to ear wax. Still looking to try the Amazon ones.

Btw, I much prefer headphones to earbuds. It's just I'd never take my Sennheiser HD 518s around everywhere ;)
