Question about CPU

Hey guys! I want to buy a new CPU which I'll use only for gaming and I have one small question. Is FX 6300 a good CPU to go or I should go with some intel CPU which price isn't too far from FX 6300?

Few guys told me that it's better to use intel CPU with lower amount of cores since high number of cores isn't that much needed for gaming but I'm not sure which CPU to choose which won't be too expensive.

Thank you very much for your time!

Since you are only using the CPU for gaming, an Intel CPU would be better

An i3 would beat the 6300, but for the best gaming experience get an i5

For a little more i would go with a core i3 for games due to higher per core performance. This will also help in everyday tasks.

It not so much the number of cores that you have to worry about, it's the strength of the cores. The way it is right now in the CPU market is Intel Has fewer stronger cores, whereas AMD has been utilizing a more cores, but weaker cores.

I'd highly suggest saving up for an I5, which isn't a far cry from the 6300 in terms of price. If you can't wait, I'd suggest getting just an i3.

I'd stick with that. AMD is typically better for lower end, Intel is better on the higher end stuff. Just my experience. Typically you'd want fewer but faster cores. Some games run better with 4 over 2 though and it's clocked pretty decently so i'd go with that one :)

An I5 would be a lot better though if you can stretch your budget.

If you can, an i5 would be best. If not, an i3 is still better while giving you a clear upgrade path to i5/i7/Xeon.

I've owned an FX-6300 for some times now. My conclusion is that the FX CPUs are not for gaming, they are for budget servers/video editing and are goddamn amazing for that. Full post: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/351398-amd-fx-6-month-conclusion/
