Any issues with Chinese Zenfone 2?

dizmo

So I was sitting here, pondering saving $70 by buying the 720p Zenfone 2 instead of the full 1080p version when it hit me.
My girlfriend leaves on Monday for China, and can buy me one when she's there.

The 1080p 16gb version is supposedly only $255 there, instead of $450 here.

I know the chargers won't be the same, but are there any other extreme differences?

I believe it's a global device, so it should be the same as the ones sold here, no? It would, of course, be bought from an Asus store.

I don't think there is much difference between the Chinese version and the international ver. besides the band differences. So you should check for the band compatibility before you import it from overseas.

This is the bands supported by the Zenfone 2 Chinese ver. (ZE551ML), quoted from Asus China's website....

TD-SCDMA/WCDMA/TDD-LTE/FDD-LTE

4G :

FDD-LTE:

Band 1/3

TDD-LTE:

Band 38/39/40/41

3G :

TD-SCDMA :1900MHz/2100MHz

WCDMA :850MHz/900MHz/1900MHz/2100MHz

2G :

GSM : 850MHz/900MHz/1800MHz/1900MHz,

http://www.asus.com.cn/Phones/ZenFone_2_ZE551ML/specifications/(in Chinese)

also pls noticed that the sim card in sim card 2 only support 2G signals, and can only be used making phone calls, while the sim card in sim card 1 support 4G/3G signal, and can be used for both phone calls and data.

Aside from chargers the only thing to worry about is frequencies. Chances are you won't get LTE on (North) American carriers with the Chinese version of the Zenfone 2, only 3G/4G/HSPA+/whatever. This was the case with many other phones too including the Chinese OnePlus One.

Yeah, I'd have to make sure that it was the International version she was getting.

She also might be able to get a Note 4 or something for pretty cheap as well. We'll see. She doesn't really want me to get an Asus phone.

Yeah it's unfortunate about the second SIM, but that's how most companies do it. The second SIM will still accept texts and MMS, so that's all I really need it for.

Thanks!

I'm hoping she'd be able to snag an International version from a vender over there. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

Don't get a Note 4 from China. Let's just leave it at that.

Haha, it'd be a legitimate Samsung product. Her dad owns a large manufacturing company. He gets deals.
